Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor (Tenure Track)
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor. Qualified candidates will need to teach college-level courses to technical, transfer degree, and non-degree seeking students in our Health and Public Safety (HPS) Division. Responsibilities will include instructing students and providing relevant classroom, laboratory, and practicum experiences needed to assist them in the successful completion of their program. Candidates may be required to teach EMT and paramedic level classes at various locations and various times throughout the year.
Our Faculty are also responsible for providing student advising relative to academic programs, and collaborating with program chair(s), clinical coordinators, other teaching faculty, members of the HPS Division, and the community to support the program and activities of the HPS Division, and College. Instruction may take place in a classroom or via distance or online learning web portals, and at external locations.
Essential Duties:
  • Maintain all necessary certifications to teach EMS courses.
  • Attend committees and advisory meetings to foster partnerships in the community.
  • Attend Department, Division, and College meetings as required.
  • Assist in the completion and maintenance of state and national accreditation requirements for program.
  • Supervise the development of new courses/curricula and the maintenance and evaluation of existing courses/curricula. Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
  • Counsel and advise EMS students and prospective students.
  • Teach assigned introductory and upper-level courses following established course descriptions, course objectives, and syllabi.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested time lines.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times (day or evening) and locations in response to institutional needs.
  • Use equipment and facilities responsibly and courteously. Assist with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree in Emergency Services or related discipline required from an accredited college or university. Commitment to earning a Bachelor’s degree within four years of hire.
  • State of Ohio Certified EMS Instructor or ability to become certified within 6 months of hire.
  • State of Ohio Certified Paramedic or Registered Nurse with Emergency Room Experience.
  • Commitment to achieving American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor Certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) instructor certification.
  • 3 or more years of teaching experience.
  • Community College Teaching Experience.

  • Demonstrated skill in teaching, using applied academic methods, including active and collaborative learning and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Self-motivated team player with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer applications.
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
