PHARMACIST
SITE OF SERVICE :

• Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (NMCP) and its associated Branch Health/Medical Clinics (BHC) and Tricare Prime Clinics
• Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree : Bachelor's degree in pharmacy.

• Education : Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
• Have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved continuing education of at least 15 hours which maintains pharmacy skills and knowledge in the preceding two (2) years.

• Certification : Must possess and maintain hands-on BLS certification through American Heart Association or Red Cross.
• Experience : Possess two (2) years' experience as an Information Technology (IT) Pharmacist .
• Licensure : Possess a current and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Island.
• U.S. Citizenship: Health Care Worker performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
• English Language Requirement: Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
• Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

DUTIES:

• Spend up to 80% of a work period in direct support of inpatient or outpatient pharmacy patient care. Duties shall include general pharmacy staffing responsibilities, as well as Inpatient clinical pharmacy activities such as pharmacokinetics, nutritional support, and anticoagulation. In addition, responsibilities may include Pharmacy Informatics, and Information Technology duties as listed below.

(1) Obtain a complete drug history.
(2) Monitor the patient's response to drug therapy.
(3) Counsel the patient regarding drug therapy and/or protocol.
(4) Investigate and resolve patient-related system usage problems.

• Receive, prepare, compound and dispense prescriptions according to professional and military standards.
• Assist in conducting pharmacy informatics evaluations, research opportunities for improving patient outcomes through application of informatics principles, standards and best practices; assist with the various computer hardware and software systems that are integrated in the automated filling and checking systems in the pharmacy. Provide clinical input as to the integrity and security of pharmacy systems, computerized prescriber-order-entry (POE) systems, electronic medical records, inventory management systems, when various security patches and upgrades would need to be provided.
• Reporting maintenance and troubleshooting needs of pharmacy systems that provide prescription generation (CHCS/AHLTA), inventory management (DMLSS), narcotics control and management (Pyxis), robotic filling systems (Scriptpro, Optifill, etc.).
• Ensure optimal operation of informatics that provide correct directions for use, dose, frequency, amount, provider specialty, medication interactions, therapeutic duplications or overlaps, allergy information, age specific dosage, and other pertinent data are appropriate for individual patients.

HOURS:

• Pharmacist (Hospital and/or Scott Center ) The hospital Pharmacy is open 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 days a year, including all Federal Holidays. Scott Center hours are 0600 to 1800; however, HCWs shall rotate among both locations. Services shall be provided to cover all hours of the day. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. Shifts will be on a rotated basis within the time ranges specified as clinical demand dictate. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.
• Pharmacist (Hospital - Critical Care) The Pharmacy is open 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 days a year, including all Federal Holidays. Services shall be provided to cover all hours of the day. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. The HCW is expected to participate in bedside rounds daily. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.
