Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist Senior assesses, plans, implements prescribed Occupational Therapy treatment. Provides advanced patient care including evaluations, goal setting, treatment planning, family training and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with designated practice act and department policy and procedure. Assists patients to prevent disability and aims toward the promotion of maximal patient/caregiver participation and responsibility for the recovery program following disease, injury, surgery or loss of a body part. Foster a constructive and supportive approach to department operations. Understands economic constraints and practices are designed to conserve resources. Supervises non-California Children's Services (CCS) paneled staff if applicable. Participate in case conferences and discharge planning activities and coordinates with a CCS case manager for referral to a CCS-paneled provider or CCS Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) or school district for the patient who may continue to require occupational therapy services after hospital discharge. Assists with performance evaluations as assigned. Supervises Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy required. Suitable combination of education, training or experience along with a California license in Occupational Therapy is acceptable. Minimum three years of experience in the assigned discipline area.
Knowledge and Skills: Fluent in written and verbal English. Ability to speak clearly to gather information, hear on phone and in person. Ability to independently operate required equipment, assessment tools, copy machine, fax machine, answer telephone. Basic computer skills, familiarity with Windows Operating Systems preferred. Good communication skills with team members, patients and caregivers, physicians and general public. Cooperates with management and other associates in achieving organizational and department goals. Consistently demonstrates constructive interpersonal skills with staff, colleagues, patients and other customers (i.e. Explores differing viewpoints and discusses solutions). Demonstrates empathy, warmth, responsibility, initiative, tact, objectivity, flexibility and creativity. Promotes professional and collegial relationships. Ability to calculate, manipulate, interpret and analyze numbers. Assesses, evaluates, and synthesizes accumulated facts and figures to determine the correct action/intervention.
Licensures and Certifications: Currently licensed by California Board of Occupational Therapy. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. California Children's Services (CCS)-Paneled required if assigned to Pediatric Rehabilitation or fulfill CCS paneling requirements within twelve months from hire date.
