Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities
Assist Providers, Nurses, and other medical personnel with providing the best quality patient care possible to every patient.
Monitor vital signs and performs patient care. Upon completion of interventions, documents accurately and thoroughly in the appropriate area of the patient record.
Assist with the safe movement of patients, such as from hospital bed to wheelchair, when necessary. May assist with ambulating patients within patient room and/or hallway.
Weighs and calculates blood loss during delivery and postpartum care.
Is able to independently restock supplies, removing waste materials, sanitizing hospital rooms and instruments, and deliver meals to patients.
Unit secretary duties (typing birth certificates, updating patient list, ordering pantry supplies, providing notary services in the FBC, etc.) as needed.
Provides personal care to patients, assisting them with all aspects of activities of daily living and provides postmortem care when required.
Prepares patient rooms for receiving patients (triage, labor/delivery, postpartum). Orients patient to room.
Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
Assists with transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed.
Exhibits age-appropriate? competencies: newborn, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Assists with collection of lab specimens, labels them correctly following LHC protocols and procedures, and delivers them to the laboratory in a timely manner.
Reports any significant observation or changes in patient condition to the RN.
Carries FBC Tech phone at all times.
Answers call lights promptly.
Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation, and lighting.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Participates actively in Performance Improvement.
Responsible for attending all mandatory in-service classes. Attends a minimum of 80% of all FBC staff meetings, drills, and review sessions.
Able to set up and operate FBC equipment independently.
Independently performs sterile technique following LHC policies and procedures.
Additional ResponsibilitiesFloats to other departments as needed. Most often the Family Birth Center staff float to Med/Surg, this can occur 50% or more of the time. FBC Techs are expected to work as a Nurse Assistant and/or sit with patients who are high risk as well as other duties as assigned. Training will be provided for these roles. This is a requirement of being employed by LHC as a FBC Tech. QUALIFICATIONS (Required)
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic computer skills.
BLS certification or successfully obtains within 2 months of hire.
NRP certification or successfully obtains within 6 months of hire
Baby Friendly Hospital Education completed within the past year or completes within 3 months of hire.
Notary Public or successfully obtains within 6 months of hire.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant, clinical or direct care giver
