Position Description:
Responsible for delivering high-quality comprehensive classroom and operational instruction programs focused on waterborne security operations to DoD and Navy Personnel. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and educator with a strong background in maritime security, ready to engage and inspire trainees through effective teaching methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-developed training programs on waterborne security operations to DoD and Navy personnel, ensuring high standards of instruction and learner engagement.
  • Conduct practical exercises and simulations as part of the training curriculum, facilitating hands-on learning experiences for trainees.
  • Assess trainee performance throughout the training sessions, providing constructive feedback and support to ensure proficiency in waterborne security tactics and procedures. Maintain a positive and professional learning environment, fostering respect and enthusiasm among trainees.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and training staff to ensure a cohesive and effective training delivery.
  • Adhere to all DoD, Navy, and contractor-specific guidelines, standards, safety protocols during training sessions.
  • Manage and maintain training equipment and materials, ensuring they are in optimal condition for instructional use.

Security Clearance : Not Required

Education : High School diploma/GED

Certification :

  1. Have attended the Navy Instructor Training Course (NITC) (A-012-0077) (or military service equivalent), or
  2. Academic credentialing (teacher/professor)
  3. Instructor training via an academic institution. Academic Instructor Training Course (ITC) requirements should contain, at a minimum, these Learning Objectives:
    1. Effective communication and questioning techniques
    2. Adult learning theory and principles
    3. Instructional Delivery methods
    4. Lesson delivery performance laboratory
    5. Training environment management
    6. Interpersonal skills
    7. Evaluation and Feedback

Experience :

  • Possess a minimum of three (3) years documented operational security boat experience serving in one or more of the following:
    1. U.S. Navy Special Warfare Combatant Crewman (SWCC);
    2. USCG Deployable Specialized Forces (DSF):
      • Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT)
      • Maritime Safety & Security Team (MSST)
      • Port Security Unit (PSU)
    3. USMC Small Craft Company;
    4. U.S. Navy Coastal Riverine Forces (CRF) Detachment or Training and Evaluation Unit (TEU);
    5. USCG Shore-Based Boat Unit or Maritime Patrol Forces that employ these types of craft: Patrol Boats (WPB) Coastal Patrol Boats (CPB)
    6. U.S. Custom and Border Protection (CBP); Marine Interdiction
  • Possess or be able to qualify as a Second Class Swimmer in accordance with NETC P1552/16 (Navy Swimming and Water Survival Instructors Manual) (Attachment U).
  • Possess or be able to obtain a USCG National Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) of Less Than 100 GRT Near Coastal Waters endorsement or better within one year of reporting.
  • Must have normal color vision (FALANT color vision test and no night blindness.
  • Possess the proficiency and skill sets to safely plan and deliver group-paced instruction on security boat tactics, techniques, and procedures in both a classroom setting and during underway training evolutions utilizing Safety/Operational Risk Management, Classroom Teaching Fundamentals, Training Requirements and Training Plans, and Training Scenario Scripting.
  • Possess a minimum of three (3) years documented tactical and leadership experience in a Maritime Environment, proficient in the operation, maintenance (routine operational maintenance associated with pre-, post, and underway operational checks), employment of Navy Force Protection boats, and be proficient in the following areas:
  • Coxswain Skills:
    1. Launch and recovery of craft
    2. Maneuvering in open water and confined spaces
    3. Underway alongside operations (VBSS boarding) with other vessels up to and including large ocean going vessels
    4. High speed maneuvering in tactical environment
    5. Towing of downed craft in open water and restricted water environments
    6. Operation of both water jet and propeller driven craft
  • Proficiency in maritime navigation to include:
    1. Solid understanding of maritime navigation to include aids to navigation, rules of the road and plotting geographic coordinates on nautical charts
    2. Nautical chart reading
    3. Navigate by dead reckoning
    4. Navigate using coastal piloting
    5. Navigate using onboard navigational equipment
    6. Navigate craft at night
  • Have an in-depth understanding of tactical small boat operations to include:
    1. Organizing a boat team
    2. Prepare craft for operations
    3. Maneuver multiple craft in various formations
    4. Conduct patrols (day / night)
    5. Support MIO Operations
    6. Live fire operations from Navy small craft during day and night.
    7. Escort Operations
    8. Perform risk assessments utilizing the ORM process
  • Craft Systems and Sub-Systems
    1. Operation and Maintenance of Craft installed Electronic Navigation systems.
    2. Operation and Maintenance of hand held, and installed boat, communication equipment and operating systems (water jet and propeller)
  • Have experience with logistical movement of small craft and associated gear
    1. Prepare craft/gear for over the road transits via prime mover & boat trailer
    2. Prepare a craft/gear for hoisting operations.
  • Possess tactical operations planning experience using a military decision-making process; organizational and individual planning; patrol coordination; development and issuance of a concept of operations, warning, and patrol; and mission debriefing
  • Possess experience in night operations, low-visibility operations, long-range navigation and operating small boats using Visual Augmentation Systems (VAS) or night vision devices.
