Lawrence Hall is Hiring a Facilities Worker - North Side Near Chicago, IL

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reports to Facilities Manager. Knows, understands and is committed to Lawrence Hall's mission statement and core values. Proactively performs daily upkeep duties for agency buildings and grounds, ensuring that floors, walkways, kitchens and washrooms are clean and safe. Grounds checked daily for loose trash or contraband. Responsible for vehicle maintenance and weekly inspections and cleaning. Assists maintenance technicians performing skilled services on: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems. Works with Risk Management committee to ensure sites are compliant. Requires a basic understanding of the youth served by Lawrence Hall and participation in basic trauma training with the ability to utilize that training when interacting with agency youth. Facilities workers may be asked to work with youth through jobs training programs.
This position will be based out of the North side campus and will service that location as well as nearby TLP/ILO site(s).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates excellent janitorial, custodial and grounds keeping skills to maintain Agency property, grounds, and facilities.
  • Along with supervisor, plans daily routine to ensure areas are maintained in accordance with Agency standards.
  • Travels between agency locations to perform work duties. Personal vehicle mileage can be submitted for reimbursement, or an agency vehicle can be used if available.
  • Coordinates with outside contractors providing janitorial service after hours to ensure maximum results with little duplication of effort.
  • Ensures that all washrooms are in good operating condition, cleaned, disinfected and stocked daily.
  • Ensures that residential unit's kitchens and appliances are routinely cleaned and in good operating condition.
  • Weekly cleaning of residential unit bathrooms.
  • Pulls trash throughout the day as needed.
  • Assists with pest control.
  • Assists with facilities requests from Ashland, Avers, Lakewood and Seeley TLP/ILO sites.
  • Conducts and documents scheduled fire drills at Campus.
  • Confirms that all safety equipment and first aid kits are up to date.
  • Assists with snow removal operations to ensure safe passage into and within the agency buildings.
  • Establishes schedule for routine carpet and hard surface cleaning at Campus.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with repairs as needed in the facilities.
  • Assists in servicing equipment as needed and on preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Assists with shipping and receiving duties including weekly mail run between south side offices and campus.
  • Maintains cleaning supplies stock at each location, securing supervisor's approval for purchases.
  • Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of agency vehicles, including weekly inspections and cleaning, emissions testing and any repairs / servicing required.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Uses active and reflective listening skills and affirmations to demonstrate respect and empathy, avoiding negative and derogatory labels that foster disrespect.
  • Understand that behaviors, responses, attitudes, and emotions are a collection of survival skills often developed in response to traumatic experiences.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants to provide a safe environment.
  • Attend at least two trainings related to being trauma informed in a twelve-month period.
  • Ability to work effectively with program participants and family members, employees and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Position requires high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of experience as janitor, custodian or day porter.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial floor maintenance and cleaning equipment.
  • Reasonable proficiency in use of computer and common applications.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, including extensive bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, and lifting at least 25 pounds.
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma and prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experiencing traumatic stress preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development, adolescent issues, positive youth development/strength-based approach preferred.
  • Personal vehicle or access to vehicle and proof of insurance.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license.
  • No history of child abuse or neglect.
  • Ability to pass background and drug screen.
