Position Summary:
The Scientist develops, validates and implements systems, processes and procedures necessary to conduct inhalation toxicology studies in small and large animal species. They are responsible for the production of expert reports relating to the specialist aspects of dosing, sampling and analysis for each of the studies assigned. They will work closely with the Inhalation Department Management, Study Directors and other Scientists to ensure that study requirements and schedules are met and to obtain a smooth transition between preliminary work and the use of the equipment for dosing by inhalation technical staff and animal technicians. They take a lead role in the training of Inhalation Technology Research Assistants and Associates, and in the career development of trainee Aerosol Technology Scientists working on inhalation studies.
Candidates given best consideration will have the following qualifications:
Skilled in managing self and others for daily study activities, data capture and overall routine study conduct
Skilled expert in working with or handling various laboratory animals
Knowledgeable of regulatory and animal welfare requirements
Ability to navigate all office-based software (outlook, CMS, word, PowerPoint, excel, etc.)
Excellent communication and responsiveness skills
Excellent relationship management internally and externally with team members and clients
Skilled in planning own work and priority setting
AALAS certification (or equivalent) desirable
Standard and novel inhalation exposure systems, sampling techniques and inhalation toxicology procedures (willing to train)
Other Essential Responsibilities Include (not limited to):
Provides technical study support on large and small animal inhalation studies
Assembles and/or monitors exposure systems, aerosol generators and sampling systems to achieve target concentrations and particle size with no supervision
Demonstrates consistent, repeatable and competent technique in the generation of test items by standard and novel methods in relevant species
Resolves simple and complex respiratory safety assessment /inhalation study problems
Performs required complex data processing procedures
Demonstrates ability to explore new equipment, software, or processes, including the design, conduct and reporting of validation experiments, which may include novel procedures for improvement in departmental procedures and data analysis
Under no supervision monitors critical phases of studies and reports problems or deviations to Study Directors and Management and ensure preliminary trials are characterized effectively and conducted in a timely manner
Provides excellent customer care to both internal and external clients, including timely production of compiled study progress updates, reports, and other client deliverables.
Applies understanding, follows and ensures technical staff follow department and company specific SOPs, study plan requirements, GLP, A(SPA)A, USDA, data integrity Health & Safety and other regulatory guidelines
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in a science or animal related field is preferred, or a combination of education, training, and experience.
