Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will assist the engineering team with a variety of manufacturing processes at our manufacturing facility in Grand Rapids, MI. In addition, there will be other projects assigned to continue growth and development in the engineering function. The Manufacturing Engineer Intern reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

The duties and responsibilities of the Intern will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in identifying and implementing new and innovative manufacturing
  • Assist in resolving process-related inefficiencies and championing process improvement project
  • Provide process engineering and support of existing processes
  • Perform assignments that have moderately complex objectives and require the investigation of multiple variables
  • Assist in troubleshooting of a product
  • Perform Root-cause analysis
  • Ability to manage and drive projects to completion
  • Assist with the analysis of statistical process analysis on new and existing products

Requirements:
  • Education: Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering. Two (2) years of completed college/university study with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Computer Skills: Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Organization Skills: Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as needed
  • Cross-functional skills: Ability to work well cross-functionally with multiple peers and groups; provides excellent internal and external customer service
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communication well with all levels of the organization; strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information
  • Physical, Mental and Visual Skills: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disability to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, climb ladders, sit and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Physical Environment: Normal office environment; manufacturing and warehouse environment and exposure to moving equipment
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience: Basic knowledge of manufacturing process and interest in a metals manufacturing industry. Ability to use analytics to track cost, quality, safety, and delivery on program projects. General understanding of engineering drawings and ability to interpret them. Knowledge in statistics, FMEA, Control Plan APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, DOE and product and process capability.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
