(Part-time position)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Project summary: The goal of YouthBuild: Bountiful Bridges is to address systemic violence and neglect of youth (16-24 years) by connecting them to community organizations solving social and environmental problems. The program focuses on the social problem of affordable housing and its relationship to energy efficiency and climate change. Using a novel Community Engaged Construction (CEC) education and training program, YouthBuild: Bountiful Bridges offers participants a pre-apprenticeship program focusing on industry-recognized credentials, GED support, and life and leadership skills while they contribute to high-performance housing options in the community and improve their own placement opportunities in an evolving construction industry.

This position reports to the YouthBuild Associate Director and YouthBuild Director of UFM Community Learning Center.

Recruitment and Outreach:

  • Develop and implement a program participant recruiting strategy with YouthBuild Staff support and community partnerships.
  • Provide assistance for educational, vocational and/or job placement of YouthBuild graduates, in coordination with other YouthBuild staff.
  • Plan orientation and recruitment events.
  • Follow up and engage target youth populations and families.
  • Recruit 6-12 youth applicants (16-24 years) to participate in Mental Toughness orientation every 2 months over the course of the grand cycle.
  • Connect with community partners and local employers to build a vocational and educational pipeline for youth graduating from active programming.
  • Help facilitate a two-week Mental Toughness orientation workshops every 2 months.

Vocational/Educational Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate youth’s abilities, competencies, interests, experience, and education.
  • Create vocational/educational plans - considering their individual strengths.
  • Help youth adapt to their educational/vocational potential.
  • Create Individual Plans for Employment (IPEs) in collaboration with community partners: delegate programmatic responsibilities to staff.
  • Facilitating sessions with family members and caregivers to better understand and support youth’s employment/educational goals.
  • Consult with employers and other stakeholders to facilitate access to employment and education: delegate programmatic responsibilities to staff.
  • Locate resources such as computer software, mobility aids, or community support.
  • Identify vocational and educational opportunities and assist youth with job and academic applications.
  • Monitor, document, and report progress, as well as change educational and vocational plans accordingly.
  • Collaborate on vocational and educational development with other professionals, families, and stakeholders.
  • Perform vocational and personality testing to determine educational and vocational planning: delegate programmatic responsibilities to staff.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with WIOA, Manhattan Workforce Center, local employers, institutions of higher education, and trade schools.
  • Keep informed of advancements in fields related to construction, permaculture, and green energy.

Strategic Marketing, Community Engagement, and Stakeholder & Partnership Development:

  • Cultivate and maintain community partnerships to achieve YouthBuild outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain quality relationships with all YouthBuild programmatic partners as well as build new collaborative partnerships for recruitment numbers and vocational/educational success.

Fund Development:

  • Work with corporate partners, participate in local fundraisers, and support grant writing as well as other fund generation activities in tandem with YouthBuild Staff to support the development and completion of the physical location of the UFM Helping Hands Scholarship House.

Other Duties:

  • Attend all UFM Board and Staff Meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as negotiated with Executive Director.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education or related field, AND extensive related experience.
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education or related field, AND At least two years of experience successfully working with at-risk-youth or young adults in a job training program; OR

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated ability in youth development, employment training and/or familiarity with YouthBuild model.
  • Public speaking skills and excellent listening and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn from young people.
  • Experience with WIOA programs.
  • Experience with federally-funded programs.

BENEFITS & SALARY:

This is a part-time position: $20,400-$25,400/year (20-25 hours per week)

This is not a benefits eligible position. This position is eligible for sick time and vacation time as well as paid holidays.

This is a 3-Year grant-funded position with the possibility of the grant being renewed by the U.S. Department of Labor.
