Overview

This position provides operational oversight of all point of care testing (POCT) in the facility, as well as monitoring equipment and maintenance records to ensure quality assurance compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies. This position provides advanced practical and theoretical skills as required to perform, evaluate, and determine the reliability of point of care test results and procedures. This position also performs all essential functions of a Medical Technologist as defined by the department.

Position Available:

Full -Time/ 40 Hour wwk/ 8 Hour/Day shifts

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all POCT for the facility. Reviews POCT proficiency records and ensures compliance with all quality control and assurance procedures, according to department and regulatory standards.
  • Serves as an advisor to identify types and locations of POCT within the facility and ensure processes that meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Takes an active role in all department quality control/assurance (QC/QA) activities. Assists department management with implementation of new QC/QA policies and continuous quality improvement programs in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Serves as the department education coordinator. Schedules, trains, and evaluates students in technical education programs for clinical rotations/externships in cooperation with laboratory area supervisors and other clinical staff.
  • Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist as defined by the department.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

    Qualifications

    • Students may be hired at the job title equivalent to their future certification under the following conditions:
    • Student is enrolled in a clinically recognized program (MLS), Student’s Clinical rotation in the core area must be completed prior to working in that core area and Student must complete program and pass certification test within one year of hire. Where no certification is available a Bachelor’s Degree with two years of experience is required.
    • MLS/ASCP certification or equivalent. (Equivalent is defined as ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB.) If no current U.S. certification, it must be obtained within one year. Individuals with specialty certification may only work in the discipline of their specialty.
    • Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills, and high level of self-motivation. Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension. Use of mathematics, performance of detailed work; working with frequent interruptions, multi-tasking, problem solving, and memorization, Ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.
    • Basic computer skills are required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. Specialty certification in department’s area and Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science preferred with exceptional skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
