The Mission of JWCH Institute is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles Area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research. The mission is being accomplished through a variety of programs and activities, such as: medical outreach and referrals for medical care, HIV services and drug treatment; health education; psychosocial assessment and intervention; primary medical care; family planning services; and research.

Position Purpose:

This role involves operating the mobile dental unit and providing essential support to dentist(s) in delivering primary care dental services to patients. The Dental Assistant holds additional responsibilities, including the sterilization, preparation, and inventory management of dental instruments and supplies. Furthermore, ensuring proper infection control in all areas related to patient care is a crucial aspect of this position. Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Operate and manage a Mobile Dental Unit, ensuring its efficient functioning.
  2. Conduct patient preparation for dental treatments, fostering a comfortable and supportive environment.
  3. Collaborate closely with the Dentist in delivering general patient care, emphasizing effective teamwork.
  4. Maintain and care for dental equipment while strictly adhering to infection control protocols.
  5. Coordinate school-based dental care, liaising with schools, school nurses, and parents to ensure comprehensive patient support.
  6. Facilitate referrals to Wesley Dental Clinics for more extensive treatments when necessary.
  7. Assume responsibility for inventory control and streamline patient flow for optimal efficiency.
  8. Participate actively in outreach initiatives and health fair events to promote dental health awareness.
  9. Undertake additional duties as assigned, showcasing flexibility and dedication to the overall success of the dental care program.

Requirements-Skills and Abilities:

  1. Effective written and oral communication.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures for all phases of specialty and general dentistry.
  3. Knowledge of modern dental materials, their storage, handling and applications.
  4. Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic background.
  5. Ability to work creatively with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines.
  6. Achieve maximal results for the clinic’s patient, from a system of integrated primary health care.
  7. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance within established deadlines and protocols.
  8. Ability to drive a Mobile Dental Unit.
  9. An acceptable safe driving record per insurance standard.
  10. Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs.

Qualifications-Education and Experience:

1. High School diploma or GED certificate required.

2. Completion of accredited course in Dental Assisting.

3. X-Ray, infection control, coronal polish and current CPR and First Aid certificates required.

4. Bilingual: English /Spanish is required.

5. No special Drivers License is required.
