Additional Qualifications and Skills

Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Administration and Operations (DAO) in the Department of Psychology, the Associate Director of Finance and Research Administration (ADFRA) is responsible for managing all grants administration and financial activities for the Department of Psychology. Responsible for the financial management of federal and foundation sponsored research projects in the Department of Psychology ($40 million).
  • Oversees monthly spending reporting to the primary investigators (PIs) on available funds.
  • Processes university prior approval system forms for re-budgeting, requesting no-cost extensions and pre-award expenditures.
  • Prepares and submits grant proposals, budgets for grant submissions, review proposal material, ensures all necessary documentation is included (disclosure forms, certification, cost-sharing, animal approval, human subject internal review board approval, and Dean's cover letter.
  • Reviews and helps prepare the Department's operating budget with the Director of Administration and Operations.
  • Authorized signature for all financial applications.
  • Oversees budgets for all funds awarded through OSP and financial statements prepared by OSP before submission to granting agency.
  • Implements new financial policy and procedures.
  • Manages grants managers and finanancial staff, including office workflow, personnel issues, conflict resolution, and training issues.
  • Reconciles OSP funding on a monthly basis to ensure all expenditures are compliant with agency guidelines.
  • Reviews equipment purchases to ensure prior approval from the agency.
  • Oversees temporary payroll function.
  • Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
