Primarily office position in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Must already be a resident of VI to be considered.
What you will do
Assist Grants Manager/Project Director of Restricted Funds Program with accounts payable, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, financial audits and accounting system maintenance and training for federal and other grant awards. Support other grants management team members (program management, accounting, and financial reporting) in their respective roles.
  • Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations and maintains supporting documents.
  • Prepares grant-related journal entries, including grant revenue and indirect expense allocations.
  • Prepares documentation of grant expenses, including invoices, check requests, and payroll records.
  • Prepares monthly general ledger reports and account reconciliations.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly grant status reports.
  • Prepares input for grants management financial status dashboards, monitors and communicates results to the project team and agency management.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial statement and reports.
  • Ensures accounting records are in compliance with federal EDGAR requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate backup for Accounting team as it relates to Cash management, Grant reporting, Bond draws and payments, and financial reporting.
  • Assist in establishing departmental grant deadlines and a tracking system to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Runs grant-related reports, prepare balance sheets/schedules, and assist in preparation and analysis of financial statements.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures to fulfill grant accounting and compliance requirements.
  • Creates and manages training relating to fiscal compliance for federal, state, and private grants.
  • As part of our compliance program, all team members are required to follow industry leading data and system security practices.
Qualifications
What you will need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent and advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong analytical, technical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with regulations applied to Federal grants.
  • Ability to administer grant compliance and reporting requirements
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Minimum 7-10 years working experience in accounting/finance field.
  • Experience in non-profit fund accounting preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with accounting of compliance for federal programs preferred, but not required.
