Rogue Community College is Hiring a SBDC Construction Contractors Board and Landscape Contractors Board (CCB) Instructor (Adjunct Pool) Near Grants Pass, OR

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Small Business Development Center. The pool will remain open until June 2024 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. 

Instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work. Instructor must also be able to adapt subject matter to the students attending the class. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the Continuing Education Department of Rogue Community College.

Supervision Received

The SBDC Director, in consultation with the Training Services Coordinator (TSC) is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed. The SBDC Director confers with the TSC in decisions regarding instructor assignment and retention.

  1. Instructs students in assigned subject matter in the classroom
  2. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course handouts, supplementary materials, instructional media as deemed appropriate for the course topic
  3. Updates materials as deemed appropriate
  4. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process which are related to the stated objectives of the course.
  5. Maintain attendance records and submits to the SBDC upon completion of the individual classes.
  6. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed.
  7. Represents the Small Business Development Center, Continuing Education Department and the college to the community, business, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner.
  8. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Specific Duties

The class participants will consist of both construction and landscape contractors who are required to complete their continuing education requirements. The instructor must be able to successfully teach and adapt subject matters to both types of attendees in the same classroom session.

There is some flexibility in how the course will be broken down into sessions and dates. To quality for CCB requirements, the course must offer a minimum of 16 hours instruction.

Two course models may be requested: A Friday-Saturday intensive 16-hour course and/or a five-night course. Complete course descriptions will be provided by the SBDC if the applicant is chosen for an interview: 1) Business Survival 2) Job Costing and Managing Your Expenses 3) Leadership Skills 4) Safety in the Workplace 5) Training Your Workers and 6) Using Independent Contractors.

Education: Must have at least four years work experience or four years of education, or any combination of both, in the subject matter as it relates to Construction or Landscape contracting. Bilingual (Spanish-English) skills a plus.
Experience: Must have construction and/or landscaping management experience; at least four years work experience or four years of education, or any combination of both, in the subject matter as it relates to Construction or Landscape contracting. Prior teaching experience and prior business ownership is preferred.
Knowledge of: Tools for communication and learning, curriculum development, group and/or individual discussion communications skills, technology and multi-media presentation skills (such as PowerPoint presentations, Zoom instruction, as appropriate. Technology training is available for candidates who meet other qualifications.
Ability to: Pass a criminal background check. Communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including non-traditional adult learners; work collaboratively as a member of the SBDC Continuing Education Department; demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching; participate in curriculum development as necessary; organize effective lessons; advise students; work with college and agency partners; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new curriculum and technologies; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.
Licenses: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire is are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

The courses will be 8-hours with lunch and short breaks, or 4 hours (with breaks) in length, and are held in an indoor classroom setting.
For a typical continuing education course, manual dexterity and coordination are required for instructing students in a classroom lab or other setting, and sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities. Some community education courses may have additional physical demands related to the nature of the course.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is typically working indoors in an office environment. In an indoor office environment the employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate. In certain community courses, the instructor may be exposed to different working conditions due to the nature of the course, content, and location.

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Small Business Development Center. Pay rates are negotiated with the SBDC Director on a case-by-case basis. 

This pool will remain open until June 2024 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may log in to the system and withdraw your application from the pool. Typically at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.
