General Information:

James Madison University Libraries is seeking a full-time Assistant Director for Media Production and Makerspace Services (MPMS). MPMS is a department in Libraries, housing a suite of spaces and services that serve as conduit from ideation to creation for JMU faculty, students and staff.
Department staff have a wealth of knowledge and apply it to support users in creating media and physical items in the pursuit of scholarly and creative excellence. The Assistant Director will lead and supervise a team of Media Specialists and student employees to offer comprehensive assistance to instructional faculty in creating research and course materials, conduct instruction sessions to enhance related skills, provide individual support to patrons at the Makery, and supervise safe operations in all MPMS spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:
• Provide leadership and strategic insights for the Media Production and Makerspace Services department.
• Organize and manage media production activities within JMU Libraries.
• Lead media production operations, including development, design, delivery, and oversight of media and related services.
• Develop and maintain best practices for media production phases: video importing, editing, exporting, storage, studio recording, motion graphics, photography, graphic design, animation, and other related services.
• Ensure timely and professional delivery of excellent customer service.
• Facilitate studio operations for multiple recording spaces.
• Support and develop software and hardware operations for integrating media content into coursework.
• Work collaboratively across JMU Libraries’ teams and serve on JMU Libraries Leadership teams as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Experience in leadership, supervision, and strategic planning.
• Formal project management training or professional project management experience.
• Experience with complete media production cycle including skills in media creation including video and audio production, photography, professional editing, and studio lighting, as well as skills in media related software such as Adobe Premiere, Audition, Photoshop and Lightroom.
• Experience manipulating and integrating various types of media into cohesive projects, using technical and troubleshooting skills with various computer hardware, software, and multimedia equipment to meet educational outcomes, and a demonstrated understanding of connecting an identified need to the appropriate technology solution.
• Experience providing customer service to faculty, staff and students.
• Articulated ability to help foster an inclusive and equitable work environment.
Additional Considerations:
• Experience creating media projects in an academic setting.
• Animation, motion graphics, and 3-D modeling experience.
• Expertise in the effective use of multimedia for instruction.
