Why Jackson
Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center is a non-profit, 180-bed skilled nursing facility licensed by the state of Florida. JMLTCC is one of two skilled nursing facilities owned and operated by Miami-Dade County, Public Health Trust and Jackson Health System to assist Jackson Memorial Hospital with the timely discharge of patients who cannot be easily discharged from the hospital to home or other community nursing homes.
Position Summary:
  • Recreation Therapist Supervisor is administrative and specialized recreation function in assisting with the development and direction of a specialized recreation program.
  • Work involves responsibility for planning, developing, and coordinating specialized activity of high organization and wide participation for the recreation program.
  • Work includes analysis of existing facilities and utilization of present recreation resources and planning for future developments within budgetary limitations.
  • The employee exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment gained through prior experience in the field for which employed; in promoting, organizing and supervising the specialty at an operational level.
  • Supervision is exercised directly or indirectly over subordinate instructional and related personnel.
    Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversees, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreational programming, including clinical/therapeutic aspects as appropriate to the age of the residents, according to State and Federal Guidelines.
  • Maintains high standards in quality recreation programming, service and effective training to staff.
  • Plans and implements recreational and therapeutic programs designed to meet the age specific needs and interests of residents, including participating in specialized structured therapeutic programs.
  • Facilitates the Resident Advocacy interceding on the residents' behalf and acting as a mediator.
  • Coordinates spiritual support services including assessment, service provision and recruitment of community leadership.
  • Develops quality of life focused programs, studies in conjunction with the University of Miami; and provides supervisory oversight to University personnel, including students.
  • As appropriate, delegates duties to recreation leaders, teachers, and volunteers, and provides in-service training as necessary.
  • Analyzes, develops and keeps up-to-date job descriptions and specifications of all recreation positions.
  • Contributes to overall facility planning and coordination of services with other nursing home departments.
  • Instructs, directs, supervises, and evaluates recreation personnel.
  • Maintains and monitors residents' activity attendance records.
  • Conducts resident council meetings and forwards issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in in-house Program Improvement activities.
  • Serves as part of the facility management and facilities resident advocate process.
  • Conducts and reviews residents' initial assessment, MDS, care plan, and quarterly review.
  • Attends all multi-disciplinary care plan meetings and provides appropriate recreation input with subsequent follow through and monitoring.
  • Ensures recreational supplies are in stock and provided to appropriate residents.
  • Develops the monthly activity calendar, special events calendar, the recreation personnel schedule, and facility newsletter.
  • Maintains various community contacts and serves on community boards and advisory councils. Recruits and trains new volunteers and coordinates the facility volunteer program.
  • Participates in the coordination and implementation of the Pet Therapy Program.
  • Ensures that staff and volunteers are sensitive to the well being of each resident and provides recreational activities appropriate to the age of the resident.
  • Accountable for fulfilling responsibilities in accordance with the JHS/PHT/JMPMC Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and for responding, as assigned, to any and all emergencies or disasters, either internal or external.
  • Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Experience:
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field is required
License Certification:
Valid certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, music therapist, or as an activities professional is required. Certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals, or Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT) is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
