POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer
DEPARTMENT: Domestic & Overseas Operations
REPORTS TO: President
General Summary:
- Direct and manage all plant and production related operations with overall responsibility for materials management, warehouse management, manufacturing, distribution, shipping and maintenance. Coordinate and influence the activities of the sales, product management and the product development teams both domestically and globally.
- Identify new sales channels and drive business growth.
- Lead company in a continuous improvement process utilizing the Toyota Way Process System for lean manufacturing.
- Manage day to day operational processes from bidding on work, sourcing, manufacturing, warehousing to shipping, installation and warranty.
- Work with General Counsel to insure all government compliance.
- Improve the outsourced supply chain.
- Mediate and resolve all conflicts between departments reporting to the COO.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Overall responsibilities for activities of all personnel within Project Management, Production, Product Development, Warehousing, Shipping, Purchasing, Maintenance and Inventory.
- For Departments reporting to the COO, interface with heads of Sales and Marketing, Accounting, Legal and HR to achieve highest levels of Safety, Quality and Delivery for the Company.
- Participates in formulating and administering company policies directing and coordinating all Divisional department activities to develop and implement long range goals and objectives to meet business and profitability growth objectives.
- Ensure timely completion of BOM/Routings using the M2M software.
- Recommend and gain approval of specific and measurable goals, and establish a strategic vision for maintaining cost competitiveness in the industry.
- Hire, train, and supervise the operations team in all departments reporting to the COO. Motivate and develop them to reach/exceed agreed upon objectives measured by key results. Perform periodic (quarterly, semi-annually and annually) reviews of their overall performance and progress toward meeting their objectives utilizing key results within the context of relevant S O P’s.
- Management of the company’s global supply chain activities including procurement, logistics, sourcing and post-sale warranty service.
- Understanding how to move and utilize all resources (people, equipment, materials, and the facility) to their maximum potential and give the company its greatest return on its investment.
- Recommend cost effective changes to operations in all departments reporting to the COO with prudent additions and changes to machinery and equipment.
- Ensure capital projects are completed on a timely basis and within the approved budget.
- Provide a safe and productive work environment for all team members.
- Proven Technical skills in materials and inventory management, production scheduling and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to travel to both overseas and domestic locations and job sites nationwide.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise and manage the daily activities of salaried employees and be second in command after the CEO.
Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through motivating, delegating and leading others. Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation domestically and globally for all departments reporting to the COO.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws and the direction of the CEO & Owner
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions relative to all operational matters within the departments reporting to the COO. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Entrepreneur with a “make money” management thinking focus.
- Decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of computer and MRP/ERP systems.
- Self-starter.
- Leadership skills.
- Quality control experience. Demand out of the box 100% correct every time
- Flexibility to assist with a variety of duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- MBA required
- Work without direction
- Conflict resolution training

- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering or a related field; but extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of formal advance Masters level education.
- Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing management experience with oversight of global supply chain activities, order fulfillment and post-sale warranty service.
- Track record of successful project management, dedication to continuous improvement and team experience.
- Ability to use personal computer skills in a networked environment.
- Management style and duties must be consistent with and support the “The Toyota Way” The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Requires outstanding “people” skills and coordination with the CEO & Owner
Physical Requirements:
40-60 hours weekly and 60 hours peak season -- July 4-Aug 30th. Travel overseas.
Physically stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, lift, pull, and push as required to carry out job functions.
