Niron Magnetics is a venture-backed start-up developing the only known magnetic material with the potential to displace widely used rare earth permanent magnets. These rare earth permanent magnets are found in electric motors, generators, sensors, actuators, and a variety of everyday machines. Unfortunately, the mining and refining of these materials incur harsh social and environmental costs. Niron Magnetics has developed a magnetic material that is free of critical materials (including rare earth elements), which eliminates the environmental damage caused by their use. Niron is comprised of a team of engineers and scientists with a desire to make a positive impact in our community. About the Position Niron is seeking a CAD Designer/Drafter for its Pilot Production facility, located in Minneapolis, MN. This individual will provide mechanical, and graphical drawing support including all documentation required for company projects with an emphasis on process / hardware support & final product drawings. This position will support multiple departments and technical stakeholders, including creation of customer facing & commercial drawings. Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of technical documentation for products, equipment, and tooling
Create detailed part, assembly and tooling drawings using SolidWorks
Works from sketches, written and verbal instructions which may require creative interpretation on an independent basis
Exercises independent judgement in selection of scale, views, dimensions & application of industry specific tolerances on drawings
Collaborate with all departments to ensure designs are documented and controlled using established drawing creation, update and control procedures
Works closely with R&D, Production Engineering, Biz Dev and Facilities to ensure drawings convey the correct information and are error free
Customer focused output ( internal and external customers ) with an elevated awareness of displaying required information succinctly
Maintain a clean work environment and equipment, and participate in plant 6S activities
Work with a high degree of attention to workplace safety.
Basic Qualifications:
A.S. degree in Engineering Drafting or equivalent
3 years mechanical design/drafting experience in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge, understanding, & implementation of GD&T is required
SolidWorks 3D CAD proficiency is required
Experience with tooling or assembly design is required
Familiarity with Engineering Change Request / Order process
Ability to self-direct and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal, prioritization, and organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering field or similar
Mechatronics, robotics or automation experience
SolidWorks Certifications
3D printing experience in plastics, metal or other materials
DNC or CNC machining software (milling/turning) from SW exports and shop floor support of the same
