Duties
The Harry Truman Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, is recruiting for an Advanced Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing). This position reports to the Assistant Chief of Sterile Processing Service.
This is a advanced level position in Sterile Processing Service as a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing Technician). In this position, the incumbent will provide sterilization, preparation, supply items and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support for the medical center. The term "supply item" refers to disposable and reusable items for patient care including instrumentation (scissors, forceps, retractors, etc.), reusable medical equipment (suction machines infusion pumps, etc.), surgical trays and sets and various other items that could be processed or assembled through the Preparation and Decontamination areas of Sterile Processing Service.
Reusable Medical Devices (RMD)
The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of RMD appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RMD appropriate to this position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 2:00pm - 10:30pm with 24/7 Rotating Call responsibilities.
Critical Skills Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): This occupation is currently approved for a Critical Skills Incentive (CSI) through 9/21/2024. Candidate may be eligible for a pro-rated CSI amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Experience and/or Education (1) Experience. Six months of experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work; or (2) Education. One year above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, and operating room and surgical technician courses or other courses related to the position; or (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
* Certification. None.
* English Language Proficiency. MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-07 Advanced Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing)
Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-6) level.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
* Detailed knowledge of complex surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings.
* Ability to assemble specialty operating room and clinic instrument sets.
* In-depth knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment.
* Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in order to convey information and thoughts to others.
Preferred Experience:
IAHCSMM Certified
Completion of Level I and II training w/Certified Registered Medical Supply Technician status

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7.
Physical Requirements: Physical demands of the position include work assignments with long periods of standing, walking, pushing, lifting, bending, stretching. This position requires the ability to lift 50lbs . The incumbent may at times be required to climb up and down a step stool in the work area. Work days may be extended without notice by emergency RME requests from operating room, clinics or nursing wards
