Job Description
MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor or designee, the Recreation Aide will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of activities for participants tailored to the needs and limitations of frail elderly. Assist participants with non-skilled Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Provide one-on-one assistance, facilitate small group and large groups of participants' activity programming and/or preparing for upcoming activities in both LIFE center and in the community (participants homes, outing, etc.). Assist with planning social, therapeutic and leisure programs. Assists in monitoring and reporting the health status and providing a safe environment for the participants of Inspira LIFE.
As a multisite provider of PACE community-based services for seniors in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties, an Inspira LIFE employee may work at either or both the Vineland or Williamstown LIFE Program as census changes or operational needs occur to meet the needs of our participants.
QUALIFCATIONS:
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One years' experience in a social or recreational program providing activities programming to the frail or elderly population preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Active Driver's License and proof of insurance required .
  • MEPAP 1-Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals a plus but not required.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques of the provision of recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements when providing and implementing recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of how to use and maintain materials and equipment of need to provide recreational activities.
  • Ensures activity supplies that may cause harm are kept locked and out of participant reach.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintain effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, medical staff and the public.
  • Skilled in identifying and recommending problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in English clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally, economically, and educationally diverse population.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Position Responsibilities
•Reports changes in participant's condition and needs to the Center Registered Nurse/clinic.
•Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups 1:1's and individual activities (exercise, arts and crafts, games, current events, sensory, etc.) under the direct supervision of the Recreation Therapist/Activity Coordinator.
•Assists in assessing and reassessing participants' functional status in relationship to participation recreational activities.
•Assists with the development and implementation of recreational activities that meet the interests, needs, and capabilities of participants.
•Assists in the organizing of special events, outings as assigned.
•Assists with preparing and cleaning up after activities.
•Assists Day Center Staff with lunch service and arrival of participants as assigned.
•Assists with maintaining department equipment and supplies in good condition.
•Maintains general order in the activities area, including daily clean-up, routine supply inventory, ordering and organization.
•Works cooperatively with other staff and departments to meet Inspira LIFE participants' needs.
•Assists participants with non-skilled Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as needed.
•Ability to deliver supplies and complete 1:1 session to participants' homes as needed.
•Demonstrates dependability through consistent compliance with scheduled work hours.
•Acts only within the scope of his or her authority to practice.
•Follows all Inspira Health Network Policies and Procedures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety guidelines.
•Protects privacy and maintains confidentiality of all company procedures, results and information about employees, participants and families.
•Practices Universal precautions and follows appropriate Infection Control procedures.
•Maintains safe working environment.
•Participates in and supports the Quality Improvement initiatives.
•Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings.
•Performs other duties as required or requested.
•Responsible for communicating patient care needs to other members of the IDT team as appropriate.
•Works within the scope of his or her authority of practice.
•Maintains participants' medical record, completing appropriate documentation, charting, and reporting of services provided with legible, timely, and objective documentation in compliance with the policy and procedures of the department.
•Initiates suggestions for process improvement and/or cost saving measures that enhance care.
