Organization Background:

ICEF (Inner City Education Foundation) Public Schools is a nonprofit charter school management organization serving communities in the South Los Angeles area. ICEF Public Schools operates high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle and high schools. ICEFs vision is to transform South Los Angeles into a stable, economically vibrant community by providing first-rate educational opportunities for students within their school communities. ICEFs mission is to prepare all students to attend and compete at the top 100 colleges and universities in the nation.

Position Description:

The principal tasks of the Community Schools Coordinator (CSC) is responsible for facilitating the process of transforming ICEF Public Schools into a full service community school in alignment with the Four Pillars of Community School work: integrated student supports, expanded learning time and opportunities, family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership and practices. The Community School Coordinator is a strategic thought partner responsible to execute the coordination and alignment of resources within a Community School to achieve ICEF Public Schools educational goals. The Community School Coordinator is expected to carry out all of their work in partnership with others and under the vision and direction of the Senior Community Schools Coordinator. Resources to be coordinated are dependent on needs present in the school; academic, social-emotional, health and others. Programmatically, resources may be designed to include options before, during or after-school, during the school year and throughout the summer months. Coordinated resources and programs must address key priority areas of integrated support services; extended learning time services; medical services; health screenings; mental health services; early childhood care and educational screening; youth and family engagement.

The Community School Coordinator must work to create a high performing Community School partnership wherein students and families feel supported, community members feel connected and successful outcomes emerge. The role of the coordinator is complex and requires a dynamic person who can effectively navigate and interconnect multiple systems to achieve success for students and families.

Reporting:

This position reports to the Senior Community Schools Coordinator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Cycle: 12 months

Salary: Commensurate with Experience ($65,000-70,000)

Essential Functions:

Oversight and implementation of data driven interventions related to the key priority areas

  • Develop, manage and execute data driven strategies to address needs.
  • Lead systematic evaluation of program, activity, and event effectiveness.
  • Utilize positive youth development resources to improve student attendance, behavior and/or academic performance.
  • Generate reports on outcomes of the Community School efforts for various stakeholders.
  • Collect, review and analyze student data to develop new strategies and plan for continuous improvement of existing interventions.

Implement actions and planned services as identified in the implementation plans

  • Conduct asset and needs assessments.
  • Expand extended day program services based on areas of need.

Project Management

  • Provide project support and management to all individuals secured to support the Community School effort.

  • Delegate and monitor effectiveness of tasks performed by staff and educational partners.

Coordination of Resources

  • Recruit, train and coordinate all volunteers at the school site.

  • Solicit, coordinate and distribute basic needs or ensure that this function is being performed in the context of the Community School.
  • Identify and build relationships with key service providers needed to best support students and families.
  • Serve as the school sites designated homeless and foster youth lisasian.
  • Monitor all budgets associated with Community School support at the school level.

Leadership and Communication

  • Actively participate in core team meetings, sharing relevant data, highlighting concerns and developing solutions.
  • Lead, develop and facilitate an effective community leadership team.
  • Communicate with all educational partners about the program.

Strategic Engagement participation in the following types of meeting is critical to successful engagement and integration:

  • Faculty meetings, grade level meetings, student success team meetings, PTO meetings, parent-teacher conferences, weekly meetings with school principal.

  • Host parent and community workshops, trainings, and Parent Engagement Nights
  • Collaborate with the Principal on Parent Advisory Council/School Site Council
  • Community-level committee meetings, task forces, etc.
  • Individual meetings with key partners who are and are not yet connected to the school.
  • Support the school with student recruitment efforts, data tracking, and enrollment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years experience in one or more major student/family support areas, e.g. academic support, mental health, afterschool, youth development, family support or leadership development.
  • Experience in coordination and/or management/administration in an educational, non-profit and/or human services setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, with a diversely skilled workforce.
  • A high degree of cultural awareness, trauma informed approaches, and competency in cross-cultural practices with children and families.
  • Experience in collaboration, meeting facilitation, problem-solving and team building.
  • Experience with school-based service delivery.
  • Ability to multitask; skills to be a team player and self-starter, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) (preferred)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet the changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: effectively leading meetings, comfortably giving academic presentations, exhibiting appropriate manners including poise, tact, good judgment, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with ICEF personnel, community representatives, parents, and students.

An ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly organized and self-motivated. Candidate must have the ability to schedule a significant number of activities, trainings, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when making decisions. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined as well as undefined and self-created processes; and operate job-required equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diverse set of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: plan, organize and administer Embrace the Mind; train staff; establish and maintain effective relationships in the workplace; meet deadlines and schedules; work effectively as part of a team; be attentive to detail and display tact and courtesy.

Working Environment

Frequent local travel and occasional out-of-town may be required for trainings, seminars, or workshops. This position will work in a shared office space and will be required to visit the school sites on a frequent basis. When out on school sites, the following physical demands may be requested: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Education

Targeted job related education that meets organizations prerequisite requirements. Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

  • Bachelors degree
  • Two-year experience in a fast-paced administrative support position.
  • Experience in community outreach.
  • Skilled in Google, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
