REPORTS TO: Dean of Academic Affairs

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday. 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m.

COMPENSATION: $66,493.54 - $87,845.73/year DOE Benefits, Exempt, Faculty Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Teaches classes on location and in villages including, but not limited to, Introduction to Construction Trades and field-specific classes as require and develops and provides instruction within the Construction Trades Technology (CTT) division, specifically construction trades.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches classes on location, in villages including, but not limited to Introduction to Construction Trades and field-specific classes as required.
  • Develops and provides instruction within the Construction Trades Technology (CTT) division, specifically construction trades.
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
  • Utilizes a combination of direct instruction, cooperative learning, distance delivery, and/or computer-based interactive instruction.
  • Explores and initiates novel and effective approaches to teaching and learning in a multicultural environment. 
  • Coordinates hands-on activities, projects, and curriculum as part of program coursework.
  • Serves as academic advisor to students, maintains appropriate student records, evaluates student performance, and submits timely grades and reports.
  • Supports student focused scheduling for traditional college scheduling as well as apprenticeship instruction.
  • Contributes to division degree and certificate requirements and works with colleagues to make changes as appropriate.
  • Engages with colleagues in annual program assessment.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues to support institutional initiatives such as Holistic Student Supports.
  • Participates in Faculty Association, in faculty recruitment, and orientation activities as needed. 
  • Completes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.
  • Participates in professional development as appropriate to maintain current with industry standards.
  • Actively contributes to College and community service including serving on committees and participating in College activities.
  • Assist Iḷisaġvik Recruiter with recruitment efforts for the Career Focused Education programs in the fields of Construction Trades Technology and other Workforce Development programs.
  • Interacts effectively in a multicultural environment and engages in Iñupiat cultural activities in the workplace.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience working in rural or isolated environments.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated PC proficiency in word-processing and database programs.
  • Ability to provide at least three industry-related references.
  • Ability to periodically travel, including flying in small aircraft to remote locations with limited amenities.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen if required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions. 
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:

Instructor Level:

Has attained the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman status with five years of recent related professional experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Small Engines or Automotive Mechanics.
  • One year of related professional industry or post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Certified NCCER Instructor or have the ability to become a certified NCCER Instructor within 90 days.
  • Valid Driver's License

Assistant Professor Level:

Meet the requirements for the Instructor Level, and possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Five years of related professional industry or post-secondary teaching experience

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

Journeyman status with five years of recent related professional experience or equivalent qualifications or NCCER Instructor Qualified in more than one of the following trades

  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Pipefitting
  • HVAC/Boilers
  • Electrical
  • Heavy Equipment
  • Construction Management
  • Welding
  • Scaffolding
  • Pipeline Insulating
  • Building Maintenance
  • Small Engines or Automotive Mechanics
  • Commercial Driver’s License Instruction (Class B or higher)

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The environmental conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to work indoors and outdoors in an arctic environment, and will be exposed to vocational trade conditions, high noise, and an arctic environment. The employee may occasionally be required to travel in small aircraft to remote locations with limited amenities.

Health Insurance- Iḷisaġvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance- Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
