Description

Summary: Contributes to store profitability by providing prompt friendly customer service within the produce department. Stocks, rotates and merchandises product to department plan. Responsible for proper inventory control to maximize product, freshness and availability. Performs duties that comply with Metcalfe’s safety standards and local health code procedures and standards. This position requires working weekends and holidays based on department staffing requirements.

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items.

  • Stocks produce bins, shelves and displays
  • Rotates product according to company methods and procedures
  • Faces merchandise on display
  • Ensures proper pricing and hang tags for items on display
  • Sustains a high level of product knowledge and products
  • Possesses a high level of merchandising
  • Creates appealing marketable product displays
  • Engages in suggestive selling methods
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service standards
  • Works toward continuous quality improvement
  • Upholds Metcalfe’s culture, customer service, and performance expectations
  • Upholds, supports and promotes all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • 6 months previous grocery experience preferred

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Food Safety Certification, Preferred
