Position: Custodian (Rec Center)

Reports to: Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation

Salary: $17.98-24.48/hour

Status of employment: Full Time

Job Purpose

Cleans the Recreation Center, arranges meeting rooms and recreation facilities, along with a variety of other tasks to provide a safe and sanitary environment.

Responsibilities:

• Maintains hallways, floors, furniture and windows to ensure safe and sanitary recreation facilities.
• Prepares rooms for meetings including appropriate set-up and take-down to ensure smooth activity operation.
• Cleans restrooms, locker/shower rooms, replenishes paper products and soap, and secures windows and doors to ensure a safe and sanitary facility.

• Reports maintenance or repair problems, out of his/her scope of ability, to appropriate supervisor.

• Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
• Keeps records of work completed.
• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, steam cleans, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets and furniture, etc.
• Removes trash from facility and replaces liners.
• Cleans spills, drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.
• Washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork.
• Clears ice and snow from sidewalks when needed.
• Picks up litter and debris from around buildings and grounds.
• May be needed to assist with the cleaning of other recreation facilities and would need to drive a City vehicle for transportation.

Requirements:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent. One or more years of related or equivalent experience is preferred. Valid driver license.
• Must pass a background check along with physical and drug screen.
• Ability to interact with staff, and visitors at the facility while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
• Able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Can effectively organize and prioritize work.
• Must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
• Physical - Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and out, with exposure to wide temperature variations, noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust. Physical demands require bending, stooping, and frequently lifting moderately heavy and heavy objects. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals.
