In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have launched a new service: Concentric by Ginkgo. We firmly believe that testing is an essential requirement to re-open the economy as quickly and safely as possible. Concentric is the largest provider of K-12 COVID-19 testing. We currently run state-level K-12 testing programs in more than 10 states and some of the nation’s largest school districts. To date, Concentric has sequenced more than 10,000 samples from a variety of sample types, in support of public health. As we continue to scale Concentric by Ginkgo, our work is also evolving and expanding into new and exciting directions.

We also recognize that biosecurity and public health are global problems. After the enormous impact Concentric has had - and continues to have - in the US, we are working to support COVID-19 response and make the world safe from future biosecurity and public health threats.
To help facilitate this initiative - and help drive our biosecurity work forward - we’re looking for talented Software Engineers to join our team. With your expertise, you’ll help to build our Concentric platform that brings more COVID-19 testing to more people, with optimized testing programs that work across test modalities and a growing lab network. You’ll collaborate with a team of talented and diverse engineers, product managers, designers, experts in data analysis, and, of course, our customers. Plus, you’ll continuously innovate new capabilities for Concentric’s platform to be the center of long-term biosecurity. This is your chance to not only develop algorithms and frameworks at the cutting edge of software technologies, but also work side-by-side with the brightest scientists, engineers, and more.
Our tech stack includes AWS, Aptible, Docker, Flask, Kubernetes, Postgres, and other modern tools and frameworks. Our languages of choice are Python and Javascript. While we don't expect you to be an expert in every platform, we do expect that you have a solid foundation in computer science and be able to master the technologies that we use today (and will adopt tomorrow).
Most importantly, while you may not have a background in biology, you must be passionate about Concentric by Ginkgo’s goal of providing more tests to more people. Your efforts will be critical to making COVID-19 testing more accessible than ever by helping to build out the software necessary to do laboratory diagnostics at scales previously unheard of.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement software solutions that address the current needs of Concentric by Ginkgo’s customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. These solutions could be a microservice, standalone tool, user-facing web application, data pipeline, etc.
- Collaborate with your tech lead and product manager to define milestones and deliverables
- Work as a member of an agile team, attend scrum meetings, and review code produced by your peers
- Write automated tests for your solution and oversee its deployment
- Monitor the production environment to detect and address customers' issues
- Prototype new ideas, algorithms, and frameworks

Desired Experience and Capabilities
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science with 5 years of industry experience
- Proven track record in full-stack development
- Experience with building distributed systems
- Experience with code management systems, CI/CD, AWS, or any other cloud experience a plus
- Experience with HIPAA compliant software a plus
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent responsibilities
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
- Eagerness to support Concentric by Ginkgo’s goals, with a strong drive to help our initiative succeed
