Position Overview: The Asphalt Plant Laborer/Operator is an entry level position responsible for assisting in all areas of the plant operations. May learn to operate heavy equipment, clean up, repair work. Must be able to work in elevated areas safely. This position is part of a crew that is responsible for producing asphalt as directed and maintaining stock levels and equipment in the Picayune, MS asphalt plant.

 Job Duties:

• Perform general laborer duties when necessary.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment in a clean, safe, and efficient manner.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment.
• Follow company policies, MSHA and OSHA regulations as directed and trained by supervisors.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of plant equipment (use of various hand tools: Sledgehammer, cutting torch, welder, pneumatic hammer/drill, and shovel).
• Understand and comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Safely load haul trucks, fill bins, and maintain stockpiles and yard inventory.
• Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. 
• Overtime work is required in peak seasons.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of applicable safety precautions.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate workflow with crew and foreman. 
• Ability to work under general supervision according to work schedule.
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to top of silos.
• Must be able to communicate safety and operational concerns and issues to foremen and supervisors.

 Work Environment:

• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and asphalt.
• Noise level is generally loud.
• Must be able to work comfortably at extreme heights on a daily basis.
• Drug free work zone. Must be able to pass a post-offer drug screening.
