Description
AGENCY DESCRIPTION:
Huckleberry Youth Programs (HYP) is a critical provider of essential safety net services for high-needs youth and their families in San Francisco and Marin County. For over 50 years, HYP has developed and maintained prevention programs that promote the health and leadership of youth, and, as a result divert youth from violence, crime and gang involvement, as well as other harmful behaviors, including running away, drug/alcohol abuse, risky sexual activities, and involvement in the juvenile justice systems. HYP employs approximately 75 employees and operates on a $7 million annual budget. We offer excellent employee benefits, including full medical/dental coverage and generous vacation time. Huckleberry has been providing services to San Francisco residents who are victims of crime and/or those exposed to violence since its inception in 1967 (almost 56 years). Huckleberry provides mental health services to over 200 San Francisco youth annually. Most recent data from the trauma screener Huckleberry utilizes, the Traumatic Events Screening Inventory (TESI), indicates that 97% of screened clients screen positive for trauma, including 37% for abuse (neglect and physical or sexual abuse), 62% for community violence, 40% for domestic violence (including verbal abuse from caretakers), and 17% for bullying; 82% of clients screened endorsed three or more items, indicating that most clients have been exposed to multiple traumas. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Psychotherapistwill provide individual and/or family psychotherapy for youth, TAY, and/or families at our Justice programs site, schools, and in the community who have been a victim/survivor of a crime. The Psychotherapist is a mobile and HYP office-based position that actively engages young people in services through community-based therapy. The Psychotherapist will provide mental health consultation to program staff as needed and work as a collaborative member of an interdisciplinary team. The Psychotherapist is also a member of the counseling team for individual and group clinical supervision, meetings, training, and collaborative support. This position is supported through the San Francisco District Attorney Victim Services. Community referrals will come from SFDA Victim Services and HYP.
OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Psychotherapist Will Receive:
  • Individual clinical supervision & consultation

Psychotherapist Responsibilities:
  • Provide family and individual therapy for youth, TAY and/or families who are victims/survivors of a crime.
  • Provide therapeutic and clinical case management services at our program site, partner school sites, families' homes, in the community and/ or telehealth.
  • Develop rapport with youth and families in a manner that demonstrates awareness of the impact of sociocultural factors on experiences, values, learning and counseling needs.
  • Act as part of the Justice department team, offering support to staff in the form of consultation, crisis intervention, client screening, case management or other tasks as needed.
  • Co-create care plans, apply assessment tools (CANS, TESI etc), and therapeutic interventions.
  • Maintain electronic and paper files, keeping accurate client data and complying with all program reporting requirements for periodic review
  • Demonstrate ability to engage and retain youth and families in services.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of legal and ethical issues and apply this vigilantly to clinical practice.
  • Consistently maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Consistently work to advance clinical skills and knowledge of self and the clinical team by actively engaging in group and individual supervision, pursuing training opportunities and sharing knowledge.
  • Perform accurate, thorough and timely record-keeping, documentation and data entry.
  • Participate in agency and program specific team meetings, training, and special events.
  • Follow up with referrals made from HYP and DA Victim Services within 48hrs.
  • Other duties as assigned such as including some clerical work (answering main office phone line, opening main entrance, restocking office supplies/equipment, cleaning & re-organizing office space, etc.)

    program.

    social change goals it embodies.

    carried personally and by the agency for the care and welfare of youth and families.
  8. Actively strive to upgrade personal skills through engaging in appropriate professional training
    experiences.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. A master's degree in psychology, social work or counseling
  2. A clinical license or registration with BBS in pursuit of clinical license
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bi-lingual in Spanish strongly desired
  2. Experience with high risk/at-promise adolescents
  3. Experience with family therapy
  4. Experience with Medi-Cal documentation, especially the use of AVATAR
  5. Experience, awareness and knowledge of the cultures of San Francisco youth and families
  6. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. TB clearance
  2. Valid CA driver's license, clear DMV record, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  3. Transportation (requires timely traveling to and from sites).
  4. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations -exemptions considered for medical or religious reasons.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position operates out of the Huckleberry Justice site and travels to local schools, community partner sites and participant's homes. This role routinely includes driving their own vehicle and the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Huckleberry's CARC/Project READY offices are located at 44 Gough St, Ste 104, San Francisco. Employees may also travel to other Huckleberry site locations for meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee must be able to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to drive a vehicle.
