Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculumand programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards,teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provideengagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role ofthe Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising,professional development and institutional and community service.
Faculty is expected to teach a full load each semester as defined inthe Faculty Workload Guidelines. Demonstrate expertise and experience in classroom teaching. Faculty may be required to teach at variouslocations in the District.
a. Demonstrate skilland/or knowledge in teaching discipline;
b. Make continuousefforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizinginnovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods;
c. Develop and use asyllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, anddepartmental guidelines and submit one copy to the department chair;
d. Plan, develop, anduse a variety of innovative teaching methods and materials that assist studentsin meeting course objectives/learning outcomes and which are appropriate forstudents with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learningstyles;
e. Evaluate students tomeasure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives/learningoutcomes and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner;
f. Keep accuratestudent records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines;
g. Review, evaluate,and recommend student textbooks and learning materials;
h. Teach courses at avariety of times and locations in response to institutional andprogram/discipline needs;
i. Use equipment andfacilities responsibly and courteously. Where appropriate, assist the chair with the routine maintenance ofinstructional laboratories and
j. Demonstratecompetence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom andwillingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
k. Should submit allgrades, attendance rosters, or any other required items at the stipulated time.
a. Maintainprofessional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community;
b. Provide access tostudents through posted office hours, electronic communication, and otherappropriate methods. Provide advice and assistance to students regardinginstructional or program-specific issues;
c. Make presentationson a particular academic field or program - its subject matter, objectives,opportunities for further study (transfer opportunities), and opportunities forwork (co-ops, part-time, work-study) and careers, special clubs and activitiesavailable, support services, scholarships, etc.;
d. Faculty members(may) provide information and assistance to individuals who maintain a web siterelated to assigned program; and
e. Work withChair/Program Director to take on appropriate academic advising activities asneeded by the College and Department. (For examples, please refer to the HCCFaculty Workload Guidelines).
3. ProfessionalDevelopment:
a. Establish annualobjectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair;
b. Keep pace withdevelopments in the discipline;
c. Learn and applyinnovative technologies that support student learning and
d. Participate in theevaluation process for self, department, and college.
4. Institutional andCommunity Service:
a. Workscollaboratively with HCC engineering technology programs;
b. Assist in bringingABET accreditation to HCC and to help insure quality in course offeringsconsistent with ABET standards;
c. Work collaborativelywith the West Houston Center Director in the coordination of conferences,meetings, workshops, and outreach activities in science, technology,engineering, and mathematics;
d. Participate inscheduled institutional service activities including opening week events,conference days, and commencement exercises, graduation
e. Participate indiscipline committee or program meetings and activities;
f. Actively participatein department, college or system meetings and/ or committees;
g. Be familiar with andadhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS;
h. Participate incollege-related activities such as student activities, selection of faculty,community education, recruitment of students, and/or special programs;
I. Participate inbusiness and/or student activities and/or community activities that fostergoodwill and promote the mission of HCCS;
j. Participate inactivities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards;
k. Participate in theHCCS planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmentalobjectives and goals and in establishing budget priorities;
l. Review, evaluate, andrevise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professionalstandards, state-mandated guidelines and requirements of business/ industry,and higher education; and
m. Assist in thearticulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondaryinstitutions.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to performthe essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below arerepresentative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/orabilities required.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution is required (officialtranscript(s) conferring degree must accompany the application). Must have completed at least eighteen (18)graduate hours in Accounting.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred; the CPA licenseis required if teaching CPA courses.
A completed "Verification of Relevant Work Experience" formmust accompany the application.
1. Able to teach allaccounting courses and possess a working knowledge of multimedia instructionalsystems
2. Knowledge ofcomputers used in support of Accounting Programs and/or experience inconducting accounting seminars
3. Possess the abilityto work in a diverse work environment
4. Willing and able toteach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city
5. Knowledge and skillin a variety of computer usage and software are required
