Hood Industries is Hiring a Continuous Improvement Manager Near Bogalusa, LA

If you said yes to these questions, then our Continuous Improvement Manager position at our plywood mill in Bogalusa, Louisiana is right for you. 

This position is a key member of the plant leadership team and is responsible for quality, process reliability and optimization throughout the plywood manufacturing process.

Position Overview:

  • Capture, analyze, and maintain data used to manage and improve performance – 30%
  • Present data and help facilitate Root Cause Action Planning on top opportunities – 30%
  • Train team members on mechanics/utilization of the CI process – 30% 
  • Follow up on Action Plan status and area performance results – 10%

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • Learn the “The Hood Way” (including the Elements of Performance Management) to become the internal expert.
  • Champion the Continuous Improvement System by:
    • Communicating concepts to peers and/or direct reports
    • Driving mechanics, utilization, and sustainability of the systems developed for the entire facility
    • Taking the lead on improvement opportunities (turning them into results)
    • Helping overcome resistance issues with supervisors and/or operators
    • Leading by example (being action oriented, accomplishing actions on time etc.)
  • Manage the area business and management system evaluation/redesign efforts (perform capacity and time studies of business processes, evaluate current performance management systems, and determine best methods for managing performance), consistent with the company standards.
  • Participate in all aspects of the management system implementation (target setting, baseline establishment, tool development, operator training, report interpretation, action plan development, and Action Plan execution).
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities through observation and/or analysis and lead the team to Action Plans and long term solutions through root-cause discussion and brainstorming task-force initiatives.
  • Organize and facilitate regular performance management meetings to discuss daily, weekly, and monthly performance, discuss any gaps in performance, and address gaps with Action Plans.
  • Manage, and maintain all CI files and tools (KPI Database, Action Plan Database, Shift Reports, department performance management tools, etc.) in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual updates on mill progress and performance to corporate leadership, mill management, and mill leadership.
  • Assist in the development and training of employees at all levels in the skills needed to improve performance and sustain optimum results.
  • Assist in managing the entire manufacturing process and fill in as leadership when necessary (i.e. vacant position, vacation coverage, etc.)
  • Manage and oversee the Quality Control department and the Quality Management System.
  • May receive additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
  • Travel less than 10% of the time in the position

What you need to bring to the team: 

  • College degree required.
  • Experience in the Wood Products industry, manufacturing industry, or a high paced/high demand industry preferred.
  • Computer expertise including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment.
  • Self-driven and high sense of initiative to take action.
  • Displays results oriented mentality with the ability to analyze data to determine root causes of problems and trends.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo among peers and management.
  • Understands manufacturing cost accounting principles.
