About the Opportunity:
You will be at the forefront of the next generation of highly talented interiors designers and engineers at Honda Aircraft Company. The interior of our HondaJet aircraft is where we directly interface and with our aircraft owners and passengers. Passenger experience is an area of highest importance to our product, and you will join our Interiors team to lead the Research and Development of our next generation of Cabin Seating and Cabin Technology Systems .
One of your primary areas of focus will be to develop seating solutions that offer new and game-changing comfort within our aircraft environment – you will conceptualize and define the core geometry, adjustability, kinematics, mechanisms, and next generation features for our future aircraft interior updates. Your work will integrate carefully researched human factors over a range of relevant use cases, considering smooth & reliable mechanical function, lightweight and next materials, clever and elegant mechanical design for actuation, enhanced comfort technology, and design for manufacturability and certification.
The second key focus of your design efforts will be envisioning and prototyping next generation Cabin Technology, including the development of physical and HMI/screen-based/graphical systems for passenger or crew control, entertainment systems, connectivity, lighting, power/charging, and emerging technology that may be applicable to cabin experience. Your work will consider styling, human factors, system modularity, design for manufacturing, and the creation of mockup and prototype assets to validate design concepts.
You have a specialization in human factors and user experience design, combined with in depth understanding and creativity in the design of mechanisms, visionary product solving abilities, solid CAD skills, manufacturing and mockup-prototyping capabilities (you know your way around a workshop, are skilled in HMI development and prototyping, and have a Maker mentality) and ideally (but not necessarily) experience in transportation design. You may have a background in Industrial Design or Engineering. You are inspired to define the future of travel and leap ahead of the designs that have come before.
As a Senior Human Factors Designer - Cabin Seating and Cabin Technology Systems you will become a primary technical knowledge-owner for Honda Aircraft Company for future cabin experience. You will guide concept development from fundamental research through to the creation and testing of high-fidelity proof-of concept prototypes, and support further development in qualification, certification, and bringing concepts to production. On a given day you may conduct fundamental research, build and test prototype components in our mockup or test bench, co-develop design and aircraft installations with our manufacturing team, create human factors and passenger ergonomics assessments, develop/review/release technical CAD, or prepare and deliver project status updates. You will be given the opportunity to apply your outstanding experience, vision and autonomy to guide the future of business aircraft cabin experience.
Your Key Responsibilities:
1. You will be working in a fast-paced environment with evolving tasks and priorities. This will include fundamental research into materials and manufacturing techniques, cabin interior systems design, features definition, ergonomics and human factors, and advanced/emerging technologies that have application to the Business Aircraft cabin experience.
2. Technical integration with interfacing aircraft systems and teams, including Structures, Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Avionics and other relevant aircraft components, as well as with Interiors Engineering and Industrial Design teams to achieve the highest quality cabin experience.
3. You will develop mock-ups and prototypes for form/fit/function assessment to meet user experience and design criteria, with a specific focus on ergonomics, considering topics such as human comfort, reach, haptics, multi-mode HMI, product functionality and user experience.
4. You will be expected to utilize novel approaches to solve complex and challenging problems.
5. Validate concept designs considering engineering core principles, design standards, aircraft certification requirements, and industry best practices.
6. Make technical and program-related recommendations to engineering leadership.
7. Develop and Ensure adherence to program milestones and objectives.
