Job Summary

The VP of Quality and Risk Management works with the management team in supporting the organization's objective of enhancing safe, compassionate, and quality care, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as minimizing loss to the organization. This position is to ensure managed communities are compliant with specific state regulations and Quality Assurance Practices Risk Management policies and leads our efforts in ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in our senior living facilities.

Essential Functions

  1. Work with Chief Clinical Officer and Executive Management Team to develop and implement a comprehensive risk management and quality assurance program that meets all regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company objectives.
  2. Work with the community and company leadership teams to ensure thorough, credible and timely event management and to establish activities that enable an environment promoting learning, safe systems, and appropriately managing behavioral choices related to patient safety.
  3. Effectively report, investigate, and analyze patient safety incidents, medical errors and potential risks in the facility. Facilitates thorough and credible serious event analysis that result in strong sustainable improvement strategies.
  4. Facilitate thorough and credible analysis to identify and mitigate unintended adverse patient outcomes and evaluate effectiveness of process changes. Coordinates disclosure of serious events to patients and/or families in accordance with organizational policy and regulations.
  5. Actively participate in learning collaboratives. Ensure implementation of best practices, alerts, and updates to drive resident safety improvement.
  6. Monitors compliance with care plans by all staff in communities. Works with the Regional Directors of Health and Wellness to monitor community activity and initiates actions as required in improving health status and implementation of appropriate interventions and monitoring alert charting from 24-Hour Reports. This monitoring includes, but is not limited to: medication side effects, activities, meals, complaints, cognition and behaviors, ADLs, and special requests. Using this information, works with the Regional Clinical Nurses to provide direction for service plan reviews with a focus on assuring that the service plans are developed to meet the residents' needs.
  7. Reacts immediately to suspected resident abuse including a thorough investigation and notification of appropriate parties.
  8. Provide analysis and identify trends to track progress of improvement strategies and coordinate with Leadership and regional nurses training and other intervention(s) required to sustain improvement. Present informative and actionable patient safety reports include high level presentations to Leadership. Submit overall Risk Management trends and analysis quarterly to Executive Management Team

Certifications, Licenses, Education and Experience and other Requirements

  • Current RN license
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership and supervisory experience in a clinical setting required; preferably in Assisted Living, Alzheimer's or Memory Care, Residential Care Management, or Long-Term Care preferred.
  • Clinical professional with a strong clinical background and prior Risk Management and Healthcare education experience
  • Experience managing significant and continued growth.
  • Experience in risk management principles, insurance/loss control, quality assurances issues.
  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation of administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional theoretical and practical knowledge of clinical best practices.
