Hillsdale College is Hiring a Lead Production UI/UX Designer Near Hillsdale, MI

Overview:

Our ideal Lead Production UI/UX Designer is an artist and a programmer, capable of designing and coding (front-end) beautiful, responsive websites. You will continually collaborate with your development & support teams and product owners to build, deploy, and optimize web & mobile apps. We believe the best web and mobile experiences are achieved when designers write their own front-end code to produce the exact user experience they envision.

Responsibilities:

What kinds of projects and work will you be doing?

  • Creating beautiful web and mobile UI designs for websites, single-page applications, and landing pages like online.hillsdale.edu, k12.hillsdale.edu, www.hillsdale.edu, and shootingsports.hillsdale.edu
  • Evaluating, designing, and optimizing user journeys that fuel engagement
  • Writing front-end code to translate your designs into working websites and mobile applications using HTML, CSS, React, and modern technologies
  • Creating design standards, reusable patterns, and components to decrease the effort required to create, deploy, support, and maintain a growing number of online properties (currently 50 individual sites)

What kind of technology will you be working with when you join the team?

Some of the key components of our current tech stack include:

  • React
  • .NET MVC
  • Angular
  • Bootstrap
  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Kontent.ai - A headless CMS (i.e., content API) that we use to manage structured content on our modern websites
  • WordPress
  • Other Tools - Kubernetes, Mocha, Git, Azure DevOps

Work Location

This position is available for remote work. Nonetheless, we find that working on-site at Hillsdale College offers a distinctive experience. Being on-site allows for direct involvement in the College's community and access to campus events and amenities. Our campus is not just a place of work; its a hub of cultural and family-friendly recreational activities, art exhibitions, exclusive access to amenities such as state-of-the-art fitness facilities, a shooting range, and rich lectures and learning opportunities. Living near the campus enables participation in academic and extracurricular activities, including sports, lectures, and performances, alongside access to facilities such as the fitness center, shooting range, and Hayden Park.

Education and Experience

This is a lead position that requires a strong track record of designing and producing successful high-traffic websites. Formal education in art, UI design, and modern front-end programming, or equivalent experience and portfolio, will be important for success in this role.

  • Associate or higher degree in design or art is desirable or comparable experience demonstrated through an impressive portfolio of completed website & mobile apps
  • 10 years of experience designing and coding mobile-optimized websites
  • Experience in a lead digital/web design role for interactive, commerce-focused websites is a plus
