FACILITIES TECH I (see Tech II below)

GENERALPURPOSE

Performs a variety of unskilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of district owned buildings, grounds, and parks. Work with outside contractors and 

assist with preventive and reactive maintenance, as well as annual facility related projects. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
  1. Portray enthusiasm for providing quality customer service through the development of relationships with staff, contractors, community members and various organizations.
  2. Proactively work to support quality service delivery to community by taking action on all observed opportunities for repair, maintenance and improved service delivery.
  1. Performs weekly inspections of building facilities and playgrounds.
  2. Performs monthly electrical inspections, minor repairs and works with outside electrical contractors when needed.
  3. Coordinates the installation of Holiday lights with an outside contractor annually.
  4. Assists in the training and/or supervision of subordinate employees.
  5. Operates tractors, skid steer loaders, welders, small trucks, aerial boom truck, and all hand and power tools.
  6. Works with facilities staff on large and small projects, repairs, and special project requests.
  7. Works with Mansion staff on maintenance requests.
  8. Maintains lighting and installs new Veterans tiles at the Veterans Monument. 
  9. Works closely with the Facilities Supervisor and lead Technician to establish and maintain a quality fence maintenance program.
  10. Performs required maintenance to district-owned fences and assists with the fence replacement program as needed.
  11. Assists with vandalism repairs and graffiti removal that may occur on District property.
  12. Coordinates the yearly turn-on and winterization of plumbed restrooms/concession areas and drinking fountains.
  13. Performs general repairs of the park's facilities and service center buildings. 
  14. Completes work orders through the use of facilities maintenance request forms and Asset Essentials work order and asset management system.
  15. Contribute to the snow removal program and adjust schedule by the use of flextime. This may include weekend and nighttime hours operating snow removal equipment.
  16. Assists in setting up and taking down special event equipment from various parks, recreation programs, and community events. 
  17. Respects District property, including tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  18. Open and close, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor. 

Receives direction from Technician III on projects and tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May supervise seasonal employees on specific projects and tasks as required and assigned. 

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

  • Collaborates professionally with other Section, Division, Department and District employees.
  • May be assigned to serve as a member on various employee committees.
  • May be assigned to support other sections with duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: 

  • High School graduate or completion of G.E.D.
  • Two years' experience in facility maintenance, playground maintenance, or construction trades.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in general construction projects, building maintenance, and playground maintenance.
  • Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.

Must become Certified in First Aid and CPR with in (1) year of employment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

All power tools, hand tools. Tractors, skid steer loaders, snow removal equipment, sweeping equipment, pickup trucks, paint sprayer, plumbing equipment, electrical testers, welder, cement mixer, and finishing tools. Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here represent those of an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is exposed to icy, snowy, wet and or humid conditions, extreme heat and cold weather, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud construction noise, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

WORK SCHEDULE

Generally, works between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours. This position is part of the HRMD on-call/weekend schedule for snow removal and is required to be on-call and work nights and weekends as scheduled by the snow removal leader.

FACILITIES TECH II

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of unskilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of district owned buildings, grounds, and parks. Works with outside contractors and supervises annual projects. Supervises and trains temporary employees as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
  2. Portray enthusiasm for providing quality customer service through the development of relationships with staff, contractors, community members and various organizations.
  1. Proactively work to support quality service delivery to community by taking action on all observed opportunities for repair, maintenance and improved service delivery.
  1. Performs weekly inspections and repairs of building facilities and playgrounds as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
  2. Purchases replacement parts for playground equipment and maintains a good working relationship with all vendors.
  3. Completes work orders through the use of facilities maintenance request forms and Asset Essentials work order and asset management system.
  4. Performs removal of all types of graffiti throughout the Parks and Open Space system.
  5. Assist Tech III or Facility Supervisor with the coordination of the annual fence staining program.
  6. Assist Tech III or Facilities Supervisor to oversee the fence replacement program.
  7. Coordinates the general repairs of Metro District owned fences.
  8. Identifies, documents and notifies residents of parkway fence violations in accordance with HRMD rules and regulations.
  9. Maintains District Drinking fountains throughout the park system.
  10. Coordinate with outside sanitary contractor to pump out waste holding tanks in Park system waterless restrooms.
  11. Performs general repairs of the parks facilities and service center buildings.
  12. Operates tractors, skid steer loaders, welders, small trucks, aerial boom truck, and all hand and power tools.
  13. Respects District property, including tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  14. Contribute to the snow removal program and adjust schedule by the use of flex time. This may include weekend and night time hours operating snow removal equipment
  15. Trains staff on the safe and proper use of District equipment and how to complete incident and accident reports
  16. Assists in setting up and taking down special event equipment from various parks, recreation programs, and community events. 
  17. Assists in the training and/or supervision of subordinate employees.
  18. Open and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in general construction projects, building maintenance, and playground maintenance.
  • Certified in first aid and CPR.
  • Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally, through emails and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, contractors, and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Must obtain a valid CDL class B license within (1) year of employment.
  • Must possess an NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification within (1) year of employment.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR and all applicable safety precautions.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Operates tractors, skid steer loaders, welders, small trucks, aerial boom truck, all hand and power tools, carpentry saws and tools, snow removal equipment, pickup trucks, paint sprayer, plumbing equipment, cement mixer, power washer and finishing tools. Use of computers, telephones, calculators, and other related office equipment is required. Computer programs, including asset inventory and work order management software, Microsoft Office suite, and Excel is preferred.
