The Systems Change Director - Economic Mobility Initiatives leads and accelerates assigned UW systems change efforts inclusive of these initiatives. In this role, the Director serves as a lead across the UW community and will mobilize resources and provide leadership for initiatives, collaboratives, projects, and program investments that ensure increased economic mobility for individuals and families in our region. A significant focus of this role is to scale and lead initiatives to help families on their road to restoring self-sufficiency and increased long-term economic security. This position is an integral part of our economic mobility initiatives leadership structure.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Provide internal and external leadership to support advancement of economic mobility initiative goals; develop, coach, and facilitate collaboration among economic mobility partners including residents, stakeholders, and community-based organizations.
  • Facilitating Meetings: Ensure effective facilitation and support of stakeholder meetings including preparing meeting materials and ensuring regular and ongoing communication among stakeholders.
  • Strategic Coherence: Provide direction and support to internal colleagues and external partner organizations in aligning their work to a common agenda (e.g., identifying opportunities for program work and systems to support specific goals).
  • Managing Internal Systems: Oversee daily operations including management of budget and an annual work plan that defines actions, stakeholder responsibilities and anticipated progress measures.
  • Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting: Work with strategic partners to refine data points and indicators and identify sources and data collection methods for both qualitative and quantitative measures.
  • Compliance: Ensure grant and contract compliance, including grant reports, data tracking, and analysis, risk reduction and quality improvement.
  • Fund Development: Help to cultivate a funder pipeline and provide input to the development of revenue strategies, including assisting with the grants writing process in partnership with internal colleagues.
  • Communications : Communicate the objectives of economic mobility initiatives to stakeholders and potential partners in the community.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for providing systems change staff with support and leadership necessary to achieve goals, implement economic mobility initiatives and build community stakeholder engagement.
  • Oversee and support the growth, development, implementation and evaluation of the United Way economic mobility initiatives as well as regional collective impact initiatives to support family stability and economic mobility, reduce the racial wealth gap and create regional system change.
  • Administer programs within budget and according to programmatic and funder guidelines.
  • Create timeline and training content and materials for reporting and capacity building.
  • Produce publications, reports, and analytics for internal and external audiences.
  • Effectively serve as an ambassador and participant for internal and external groups.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Master's degree in social work, business, public policy, or related field preferred; and/or at least eight years of relevant work experience, including at least five years managing staff and collaborative teams in a fast-paced nonprofit, community organizing, social enterprise, or start-up environment.
  • Experience working in an economically, racially, and ethnically diverse environment and the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • The executive presence to inspire confidence and passion in internal and external audiences.
  • Advanced strategy and planning skills, including an ability to think strategically on both organizational and systemic levels over multi-year horizons.
  • Experience with project management and stakeholder management.
  • Experience leading and managing systems and processes.
  • Possesses subject matter expertise in outcomes and performance management principles.
  • Strong data acumen and ability to use data to drive decision-making.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills before multiple types of audiences.
  • Existing relationships with, or ability to quickly build relationships with, a cross-sectorial range of stakeholders in the local or regional area, including senior executives.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, able to build authentic relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A strong ability to multitask, be flexible, and often complete tasks with a short deadline is a must.
  • Strong writing ability.
  • A willingness to extend beyond formal responsibilities as needed for the work.
