About the Job

Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

Description of Position

This position has the responsibility of assisting the clinicians and hospital staff in the preparation and dispensing of medication to patients and Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) staff under the direction of veterinarians and clinical pharmacist.

Salary Range: $20.86 to $25.43

Essential Functions

  • 40% Prepares prescriptions medications for all inpatient and outpatient clients in a timely and accurate manner per request from licensed DVMs for patients in a timely and accurate manner
  • 25% Communicate with and assist other hospital staff members and clients in person, on the phone, and through email.
  • 10% Maintains appropriate records of perpetual inventory log for controlled substances including stocking and managing inventory of the hospital automated dispensing cabinets
  • 10% Completes annual training and maintains proper technique compounding sterile and non-sterile drug manipulation in accordance with USP 795, USP 797, and USP 800 including, but not limited to: sterile intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, capsules, suspensions, injectable and ophthalmic preparations.
  • 10% Maintain a clean working environment in the dispensary and equipment and stocking supplies as needed
  • 5% Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 months experience in a pharmacy or veterinary setting handling medications.
  • Incumbents must not have been convicted within the past 5 years of a felony or within the past 2 years of any crimes associated with the unauthorized use of controlled substances.
  • Strong customer relations and communication skills, including knowledge of general pharmacy operations.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English in order to fill accurate pharmacy orders and communicate with various personnel.

The Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) has served the community for more than a century. It is the most advanced, full-service referral care center for large and small animals in Minnesota. The VMC sees more than 35,000 cases annually, with specialists available in all areas of medicine and surgery. More than 50 of the veterinarians on staff have undergone several years of additional training to become board-certified specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine. The Veterinary Medical Center is comprised of the Small Animal Hospital for dogs, cats, and other companion animals, the Piper Clinic at the new Leatherdale Equine Center, for horses, and the Large Animal Hospital, which treats farm animals, and occasionally, zoo animals.
