Project Engineer – Civil

BL Companies has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to work with our engineering group in our growing, Melville, NY Office. This group delivers project development, engineering, permitting, and construction administration services in the retail/commercial, energy, and public infrastructure markets. This position will entail working with design engineers, utility companies, clients , permitting agencies, and various project stakeholders to bring projects from conceptual design through construction.

The selected candidate will be asked to continuously increase his or her own skills through the execution of project work. Additionally, the Project Engineer will assist senior staff and serve as a technical resource and mentor to staff engineers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Map existing utilities following the principals of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), as defined in CI/ASCE 38-02, Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data
• Linear utility design including layout of proposed natural gas mains and electrical transmission and distribution systems to avoid existing utility conflicts and provided least-disruptive, cost-effective solutions
• Grade sites and design of post-construction stormwater management systems
• Prepare alignments, surfaces, cut profiles, and generate contours in Civil 3D
• Assist the Senior Engineer in procuring permits for project approval, including researching regulations and attending agency meetings
• Coordinate with project team across multiple offices on design, permitting and construction components
• Prepare technical reports and plans to acquire permits and permit modifications during construction
• Coordinate and communicate with all project stakeholders
• Review project plans, reports, and estimates
• Represent our clients and BL Companies in various capacities

Required Experience:

• 2 - 5 years of design experience; experience in land development, highway and/or utility design a plus
• A BS degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required. FE/EIT or PE is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• MicroStation and/or AutoCAD experience a plus
• Team player

A Project Engineer at BL Companies has an expected base salary of $72,000-$105,000 per year, depending on experience. This is in addition to straight time overtime for every hour over 40, generous PTO, Leadership Development programs, 401k match and no-cost Stock Plan, and our 100% Employee Owned model.
