Hamilton County Schools is Hiring a District Content Lead-6-8 ELA Near Chattanooga, TN


Overview

The purpose of this position is to assist with the design, development, and implementation of a strong system of support for implementing high-quality instructional materials in ELA with fidelity and integrity. Collaborate with others to develop and lead professional learning opportunities for secondary teachers (grades 6-8) across the district, being prepared to work individually with schools and learning communities. This position would collaboratively work on a leadership team that supports all secondary schools to ensure alignment and implementation of the curriculum is in service of meeting the needs of individual schools and students.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation and ongoing improvement of the district’s ELA curriculum to ensure alignment between Tennessee State standards, assessments (summative, interim, and formative), curricular resources, and professional learning for teachers and leaders.
  • Possess a deep conceptual understanding of a strong ELA curriculum. Specifically understanding the myPerspectives curriculum is preferred.
  • Show competence in facilitating summer professional learning for teachers and coaches, conducting benchmark and formative assessment data reviews, developing and delivering training and workshops for Instructional Coaches, and providing intentional support to schools within learning communities.
  • Collaborate with leaders to design, implement, and evaluate teacher professional development. Design and conduct ongoing and sustained professional development throughout the year. Work with other content leads on developing curriculum guides and unit outlines, New Teacher Academy, and professional learning for building level Instructional Coaches.
  • Plan, prepare, and demonstrate model lessons using a variety of presentation methods.
  • Ensure the work is aligned to the Academic Press and Personalization (APP) focus areas and builds capacity within coaches to continue the work.
  • Provide planning feedback to teachers and assist in refining instructional practices and developing aligned assessments. Have an understanding of effective coaching strategies and various coaching moves.
  • Use multiple forms of data to inform daily instructional decisions (ex., analyzing data that will be used to highlight specific standards that are aligned in upcoming lessons and units).
  • Implement research based strategies that assist with reading and writing learning goals.
  • Complete assigned duties that align with the strategic direction, mission and vision of HCS.
  • Coach teachers on effective instructional strategies and high-leverage practices. Able to work side by side with instructional coaches to build their capacity.
  • Maintain records of school progress and strategic actions implemented to promote growth (i.e., Review APP data and goals for next steps with schools, analyze and reflect upon Benchmark data, etc.)
  • Communicate progress toward academic development goals with school and Central Office leaders. Effectively communicate with peers, other content leads, K-12 Literacy Coordinator, Director, and Learning Community Academic Leads.
  • Track academic data with fidelity in order to develop interventions and monitor their impact.
  • Participate in school, district, and specific network professional development activities.
  • Establishes procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
  • Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
  • Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. 
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate field; Master’s degree strongly preferred or as required by state guidelines.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in school administration or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.

  • Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
