Overview:

Halifax Health - Hospice is seeking a Medical Secretary.

Summary:

The Hospice Medical Secretary performs departmental tasks to support the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) and clinical interdisciplinary group (IDG) members. Responsibilities include clerical/secretarial responsibilities, answering organizational and team phone lines and various tasks to ensure high quality patient care.

Job Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous secretarial experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Skills in oral & written communication required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with patients, families, colleagues of varied disciplines, physicians and ancillary department personnel.
  • Excellent typing skills & experience working with multiple software programs Microsoft Word & Excel etc.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • General clerical duties; including making copies, coordinating mailings, typing correspondence, minutes and other documents.

  • Answering large volume of calls for organization and team maintaining excellent customer service.

  • Communicates, obtains pertinent information, maintaining the dignity, confidentiality and cultural sensitivity of all individuals of varying socio-economic groups.

  • Maintains, updates and orders forms and medical supplies as needed.

  • Data entry and collection, creating reports and gathering other needed information for Patient Care Coordinator (PCC), IDG meetings, etc.

  • High standard of customer service and phone etiquette, providing thorough hand off to appropriate team members to assist and support patients, families and community.

  • Provides support to PCC, IDG and other departments and teams in the organization.

  • Maintain working order of all company office equipment.

  • Ensuring appropriate supervisory personnel are made aware of items of concern/problems quickly.

  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of assigned work environment.
