**Position Details**

Position Title Safety & Security Shift Supervisor - Armed Position Number S050PD Branch Student Life (BR) Division Dean for Student Life (DIV) Department Safety & Security Location Jackson FLSA Exempt Job Summary The Shift Supervisor is an armed position, and reports directly to the Operations Supervisor for Safety and Security, and is responsible for the day-to-day shift operations within the Office of Safety and Security. The Shift Supervisor works closely with students, faculty, and staff to create an environment where all members of the University community feel safe and served. Essential Job Duties

* Serve and protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Union University.

* Supervise, support, encourage and direct security officers taking corrective action, if necessary.

* Coordinate and be responsible for the delivery of timely, safe, quality safety and security supervision.

* Provide primary guidance on situational problems; making referrals for more complex problems.

* Participate in both walking and vehicle security patrols, as well as other proactive criminal preventative methods, and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls in accordance with training guidelines.

* Provide emergency/crisis/routine response as situations arise, in accordance with University and departmental policy, Federal, State, and local laws.

* Serve as on-sight point of contact for first responding entities such as fire, police, JEA , and EMS .

* Encourage favorable behavioral patterns through direct interactions and relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

* Maintain shift schedules for security officers, accounting for holiday, vacation, and sick leave. This information is relayed to the S & S Operations Supervisor for payroll.

* Prepare records and reports as assigned by the Director or Operations Supervisor for Safety and Security; maintain daily logs as required; Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects.

* Work closely with Facilities Management personnel to correct and prevent campus safety problems.

* Proficiently utilize office technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

* Complete required paperwork in compliance with the Safety & Security Operations Manual, including but not limited to field reports, operation notes, after-action/incident reports, accident reports, and traffic citations. Maintain department records, reports, and files as required.

* Monitor and control parking according to parking program specifications; check parking lots and vicinity for abnormal activity.

* Lead/assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

* Conduct ongoing training as necessary to ensure officer certification and competency. Maintain required certifications and enhance professional growth and development through participation in training and educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops as assigned.

* Maintain firearms proficiency in accordance with office training guidelines is a requirement of the job.

* Trained in CPR , AED , and first aid techniques with the ability to train other officers. Yearly certification is required.

* Provide on-campus escorts to the university community.

* Must have a good working knowledge of all Union University Safety and Security policies, procedures, university rules, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.

* Responsible for carrying out or assisting with other duties as assigned by the Director or Operations Supervisor for Safety and Security.

Other Job Duties Required Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and three years of experience in police work, related military experience, or comparable organizational armed security experience. This position requires a valid drivers license and excellent customer service skills. Must pass a psychological assessment, drug test, and full background check. Certification as an Armed Security Officer with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance or ability to be certified required. CPR /AED certification or the ability to be certified is required. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with a current/previous P.O.S.T certification or relevant military experience. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in criminal justice or similar field of study is also preferred.
