Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health is Hiring a Hospitalist Physician, Medical Director of Hospital Medicine for the Department of Family and Community Medicine - Center City P Near Philadelphia, PA

The Department of Family & Community Medicine of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University is currently accepting candidates for the position of Hospitalist and Medical Director of Hospital Medicine for the DFCM at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Center City Philadelphia.

This position is for a full-time clinical faculty member, with support for resident curriculum development and administrative time for directing the service and participating in hospital quality and operational committees, as needed. It is a unique opportunity to join a supportive work environment and working with patients from across the Philadelphia area.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Providing excellent patient care to patients admitted to TJUH on general medicine, med-surg, observation, and step-down floors, covering patients who see providers at DFCM ambulatory practices.
  • Covering 18 weeks per year of inpatient service at TJUH (7 days per week) working with a team of resident physicians, evaluating patients, creating treatment plans, ordering, reviewing test results, and communicating with patients and families.
  • During service weeks and on off-service days, attending hospital committee meetings, designing and implementing curricula for resident physicians in Family Medicine, participating in departmental meetings, committees, and other assignments as needed.
  • Working as part of interprofessional team (including MA, RNs, behavioral health, social workers, population health specialists) that provides patient-centered care.
  • Covering at-home telephone call while on service for inpatient admissions done by the inpatient resident team (which includes night coverage).
  • Rounding on weekdays and weekends while on service.
  • Designing and implementing hospital medicine curricula for family medicine residents and students.
  • Leading a rotating group of DFCM faculty providers who cover the hospital service, ensuring clinical standardization, sharing new guidelines and care pathways, and convening regular meetings to support operational success and clinical quality efforts.
  • Interfacing with hospital groups in the areas of operations, quality, and patient safety.
  • No ICU coverage required, no procedures or intubation management required. Average census is 15 patients, covered by 2-3 interns, and 2 senior residents, with some medical consultations for surgical specialists.

Requirements: Qualified applicants will hold a MD or DO degree and be board certified, or eligible, in Family Medicine. Must have 2-3 years of hospitalist experience. Must have or obtain a PA medical license. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience. Jefferson offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefit package.
