General Summary

The Director of OSP Engineering will be part of our Network Engineering team and report to the VP of OSP Engineering who leads that team. This Director will oversee a team of wireless, FTTH, and transport engineers in the creation of network designs. Upon completion, the Director and team will work closely with Construction Managers to ensure smooth permitting, provide engineering support, ensure technical specifications are met and document final network as built. This director will be responsible for assessing the design, feasibility and implementation plan for all wireless deployments and Fiber to the Home (FTTH) deployments for Rise Broadband. The Director will work closely with our Construction, Program Management, Business Development and Operations teams to ensure that designs maximize our goal to bring broadband communications to Rural America. The Director will also engage and closely work with multiple Engineering vendors to complete detailed designs for approved projects.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Construction, Business Development and Operations teams to identify projects and designs that will maximize our fiber asset creation.
  • Engage and closely work with multiple Engineering vendors to complete detailed designs for approved projects.
  • Conduct Engineering Assessment - determine the high-level viability of proposed projects.
  • Manage high-Level Designs and Cost Estimates - produce internally to develop high level fiber designs and cost estimates to assist with determining whether projects are feasible and can be pursued
  • Engage with customers, partners and vendors in a professional manner that builds trust.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify projects that maximize the goals of building long-term assets as well as delivering quality broadband communications services in our operating regions
  • Capture and communicate design proposals and cost estimates both internally and externally to partners
  • Develop quality content for grant requests as well as internal capital investment opportunities
  • Upholds existing company policies and contributes to the crafting of new policies or revisions
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years with FTTH infrastructure experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated, on-the-ground experience in the design and deployment of fiber networks
  • Experience contracting and managing 3rd party engineering resources
  • Ability to quickly analyze information and transfer into a business plan/proposal
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team to optimize plans and results
  • Effective prioritization and project management skills

Working Conditions

  • Employee remains in the sitting position for prolonged hours. Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubicle/workspace area.
  • Must be able to work safely in a field or office environment. Must be adept at working in adverse weather conditions.
