What is this job?

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional, cognitive, language, and physical growth and development of all children in their classroom. This may include infants, toddlers and/or preschool age children. The Lead Teacher develops partnerships with birth parents and/or guardians to engage and encourage parent participation in program. The Lead Teacher develops weekly lesson plans according to Creative Curriculum and implements age appropriate activities to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care. The Lead Teacher provides a safe physical and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth.

What does this job do specifically?
  • Perform on-going developmental assessments using ASQ’s and Teaching Strategies Gold of children.
  • Engage in intentional interactions with children in teaching and learning.
  • Write required reports/keep accurate and orderly records timely.
  • Provide guidance and direction to assigned Assistant Teacher(s), and/or Volunteer(s) ensuring that they demonstrate a participating role within their assigned group of children.
  • Participate effectively in all mandatory professional meetings including admission, review, parent conferences and in-service professional development as requested by the Center Director.
  • Work effectively with parents, other staff and colleagues.
  • Use positive guidance when addressing children’s behavior in the classroom.
  • Plan, organize, set up, supervise and clean up planned activities that stimulate children’s curiosity and abilities.
  • Support National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) best practices and guidelines.
  • Represent Board of Child Care by being responsive, caring and informative in communication with parents, other teaching staff and the organization at large.
  • Resolve conflicts quickly and involves supervisor and or other management members when appropriate.
  • Develop trustworthy relationships with peers, supervisors and managers.
  • Demonstrate applied knowledge of curriculum and the fundamental principles of early childhood care and education.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community, which may affect the behavior of children.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish relationships with children on a group and individual basis, gaining their confidence and trust and imparting a sense of security.
  • Able to work cooperatively with others.
What experience and education do I need?
  • At least 1 year experience working in the Early Childhood Education setting.
Required Education
  • Associate degree in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies or a closely related field OR Associate degree (or higher) in any subject area with at least 24 semester credit hours in early childhood by December 2, 2023
