Description
The Juvenile Court has an opening for a Juvenile Services Associate.
This position assists in maintaining community safety through the supervision and support of youth on court ordered release while awaiting adjudication. Associates ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of release through phone contacts and field visits, supervise youth assigned to Alternative Programs in lieu of Detention and provide the court with a report reviewing program compliance. This position provides supervision of youth 7 days a week between the hours of 08:00am and 9:00pm. Assigned work hours will include weekends, evenings, or a combination.
This is a non-represented position.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires two (2) years of experience in Criminal Justice or closely allied field, post-secondary education, or training in the social and behavioral sciences or in Criminal Justice may be substituted for up to eighteen (18) months of required experience: a bachelor's degree is desirable. Other combinations of education or experience, which would demonstrate the ability to perform the work, may be considered.
Additional qualifications include:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, motor vehicle operator's license and required insurance.
  • Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends .
Knowledge of : Complex office procedures; writing rules including spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar; filing and record-keeping procedures; computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe; supply ordering, and customer service.
Ability to: Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with youth and families, school officials, personnel of other juvenile related agencies, and within a team environment; master unit processes and procedures; operate standard office equipment, computer software applications, telephones, fax and copy machines; ability to create documents, reports, and correspondence from rough draft or oral instruction; ability to interpret detailed written procedures, effectively research and solve problems; apply sound judgment in making decisions in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations; interact professionally with the public; diffuse difficult or highly charged situations; follow oral and written instructions; effectively work with persons from all levels in the organization and diverse backgrounds including age, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, physical characteristics, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Examples of Duties
Additional Job Description:
  • Maintain community safety by aiding parents/guardians in supervising youth while they are in the community on Court ordered release.
  • Complete random daily phone and face-to-face contacts in the community, documenting the youth's compliance for court review.
  • Assist youth in successfully remaining in the community while awaiting further Court intervention/services.
  • Increase youth and family's community connections by providing resource referrals and assistance in linking youth with needed services.
  • Work with youth and parents/guardians to increase positive communication and conflict resolution strategies, improving the likelihood of youth successfully remaining in the community.
  • Detention Alternatives Associates will provide a synopsis of youth's performance on CSP and provide it to the Court at the youth's arraignment/review.
  • Supervise and engage with youth assigned to the Weekend and Extended Weekend Reporting programs.
  • Increase offender competency by providing supervised community-based educational, recreational, and skills-building programming.
  • Increase youths' positive connections to the community through participation in Restorative Community Service projects.
  • Performs other work as required.

Finalist must successfully pass a background check as required by RCW 43.43.830.
Driving Abstract:
Finalist will be required to provide a copy of their Driving Abstract for review by Risk Management.
