GE Corporate is Hiring a Remote Boiler Field Service Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Boiler Field Service Engineer provides on-site technical direction to customer-owned utility and industrial power plants for their Steam Generating Systems. This position is responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID’s, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements. The primary responsibility of the Boiler Field Service Engineer is to provide technical support to safely inspect troubleshoot and provide recommendations for repairs of the steam generators, boilers, electrostatic precipitators, scrubbers, pulverizers, burners, and auxiliary equipment used in steam and power generation applications. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our Steam Power vision and align with our organization’s core values.
This role will work on utility and industrial boilers, environmental control system and auxiliary equipment. You will service clients primarily in the US and Canada, with occasional overseas opportunities available.
This position is available remotely within the U.S. The role is expected to travel 80% annually, at times on short notice.

Job Description

Your Role:

  • Fulfill contract responsibilities for designated and qualified skill set.
  • Provide inspection and repair recommendations during outage assignments and a written report on a timely basis.
  • Direct and oversee repair or inspection procedures utilizing the latest electronic communication, references and documentation technologies.
  • Recognize, predict, and document potential failures and future outage recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of prints/print reading, such as manufacturing drawings, P&IDs and schematic drawings
  • Participate as a Service Team member dedicated to Safety metrics.
  • Pre-outage planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures.
  • Lead execution and oversight of projects under the TFA’s core competency
  • Execute project management and technical leader duties. Support warranty administration and troubleshooting issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support business needs when not on field assignment
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required by field assignments.
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 6 years of experince power plant maintenance, boilers and auxiliaries or power plant equipment installation/commissioning; or a high school diploma / GED with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to travel 80% annually domestically within the U.S. and internationally to Canada.
  • Must be able to hold a valid passport.
  • Ability to fit into tight spaces, confined spaces, enter through small access doors, work at heights from scaffold, and sky climbers, and ability to wear respirators for dusty conditions.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experince with boilers and auxiliaries.
  • Has the knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and be aware of where to seek answers to questions as they arise.
  • Has experience with successful installations and outages.
  • Experience and training on GE, Alstom, CE other OEM steam generating, and fuel firing equipment is preferred.
  • Good attitude to manage relationships with customers, concerning technical and contractual aspects.
  • Follow up all quality aspects according GE QA manual and procedures.
  • Working knowledge and application of EHS rules.
  • Effective communication to HQs, through company e-tools
  • Good organizational, project management, oral/written communication, interpersonal/leadership skills
  • Good business acumen and ability to sell GE products to the customer.

The salary range for this position is $76,700 - $105,000 USD Annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus. Available benefits include Health and Retirement.
