DCH HEALTH SYSTEM is Hiring a Health Information Data Specialist - Spine Care Near Tuscaloosa, AL

Overview

Creates new electronic medical records by obtaining information from referring physicians by working the schedule three days in advance to include information for any patients not seen within the last three years. Also to assist physicians and other SpineCare Center personnel, keeping patient records in accordance with hospital, Joint Commission, CMS and departmental policies and procedures. Locates records in the electronic medical record to scan loose reports, dictation and correspondence daily. Completes release of information duties for walk-in, and telephone requests from physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Calls to obtain information for new patients scheduled daily to verify all patient information needed for the visit is available including any recent imaging reports.
  • Complete any alerts (message tasks) in Expanse sent by the physicians, nurses or scheduling.
  • Sorts and scans loose dictation, lab, radiology, and referral reports that are received by fax or through Rapid Filer.
  • Maintains electronic medical record for the SpineCare Center ensuring all chart information is filed in a timely manner.
  • Processes walk-ins, telephone, insurance and legal requests using hospital and departmental policies and procedures on release of information.
  • Log all requests in Expanse for the purpose of account of disclosure.
  • Retrieves and delivers patient records from storage or microfilm when necessary.
  • Retrieves charts for scheduled patients from storage for The SpineCare Center clinic.
  • Assists co-workers in completion of essential functions to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Answers the phone in a professional, timely manner and responds to all requests promptly.
  • Must adhere to Medical Records and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Retrieves all requests for special studies and internal or external committee review.
  • Responsible for maintaining office area to include stocking supplies, cleaning, keeping the area organized, keeping the office set up for continuous work flow such as keeping equipment toner and paper installed, maintaining the scanner, notifying secretaries of low supplies, completing tasks started, and/or performing any other task assigned.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the provision of high quality service and contributes to quality outcomes (i.e. accuracy rates, documentation, quality improvements) at 97% to meet the standard.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds departmental deadline standards and work/project completion (i.e. individual productivity, meeting established deadlines) at 97% to meet the standard.

  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must have good public relation skills.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to stressful situations and work schedules.
  • Must be able to operate a calculator, fax machine, and computer.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Requires ability to work 8 hours quietly at a computer screen and keyboard/mouse. Requires ability to withstand pressures of constant deadlines, audits, educational demands and changing healthcare environment. This job involves standing, walking, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, and crouching. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently. Must have good dexterity. Should be able to reach and extend arms in any direction. Must be able to adapt to changes in work area as assigned. Must have ability to accept criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
