Fortera Corporation is Hiring a Senior Materials Handling Engineer Near San Jose, CA

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Materials Handling Engineer will lead engineering efforts for the successful design and operation of all Fortera bulk material handling processes: flow rates, storage capacity, integration with product lines, mineral grinding, kiln operation/calcination, mineral dissolution, gas absorption, precipitation, solids dewatering, and drying.

This is a hands-on role requiring a driven, experienced mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineer who would be able to own and drive design decision points with respect to process set up and equipment selection such as belt conveyors, bucket elevators, screw conveyors, blenders, mixers, silos and hoppers.

The position is best suited for someone with a solid understanding of chemical production experience who understands how to move and manipulate dry bulk solids and fine powders (comparable to cement). Experience with dewatering slurries/cakes, plant operations, plant engineering activities, and equipment design and specifications decisions are pluses. This includes designing storage facilities, material load out to trucks and rail, managing inventory levels, implementing quality control measures, and coordinating with procurement.

This individual must be able to deal with the unknown challenges brought on by implementing new technology and manufacturing processes and is comfortable with not knowing all the answers but be able to make decisions and recommendations as we go.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Validate production equipment selection.
  • Assess the material handling requirements specific to the Fortera cementitious material production process.
  • Ensure efficient handling and storage of raw materials required for production.
  • Summarize process and regulatory requirements to evaluate and select plant equipment.
  • Oversee material handling instrumentation and valve selections.
  • Oversee plant piping material selections, line sizing, and pipe routing as it pertains to solids flow movement.
  • Define plant operation materials process and documentation.
  • Manage the development and implementation of the process controls.
  • Design systems for the efficient packaging, storage, and dispatch of finished cement products.
  • Create programs to conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on material handling equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee material handling projects, such as the installation of new equipment or modifications to existing systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of material handling designs, equipment specifications, maintenance activities and project documentation.
  • Nominally 15% travel to plant site in Redding, CA during construction and commissioning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • 10 years engineering experience designing, scaling, building, and commissioning a chemical or materials manufacturing plant or similar production plant
  • Commanding knowledge of solids material handling
  • Experience designing material handling systems at scale - tonnes per hour. (Direct experience in cement is not necessary, but experience producing chemicals or materials at multiple scales is a plus)
  • Well versed in engineering design utilizing PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment/technology selection
  • Experience interacting with external engineering firms, contractors, and equipment suppliers
  • Strong mechanical skills associated with plant operations and equipment
  • Experience with process control schemes and implementation

COMPENSATION:

The compensation package for this role includes a competitive base salary commensurate with experience of $125,000 - $150,000, well as an annual bonus and pre-IPO incentive stock options.

PERKS AND BENEFITS:

We know that happy employees are productive employees, which is why we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

    • 100% company-funded Medical, Dental, Vision, Life & Disability coverages for employees
    • Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account options
  • Tax deferred & Roth 401k
  • Paid vacation days (increased with tenure), 12 paid holidays, and unlimited PTO for exempt employees
