Los Angeles LGBT Center is Hiring an AV Technician Near Los Angeles, CA

Position: AV Technician 

Program: Special Events

Department: Marketing & Communications

Reports to: Director of Event Operations

Compensation: $25.00 per hour

Status: On-Call/Relief, Regular, Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Center's Marketing & Communications team functions as a full-service internal and external marketing and communications provider for the largest LGBTQ organization in the world. Scope of work includes media and press relations; crisis and breaking news communications and events; website building, optimization, maintenance, and content creation; program and services collateral, communications, and support; graphic design and production; social media management; video and photography production; and email marketing. The team also provides overall organization brand support and promotion.

JOB SUMMARY: As scheduled and under the general supervision of the Director of Event Operations, provide technical support for special events, performances, and routine rental situations at various Center locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Operate lighting and audio/visual equipment and programs for special events including but not limited to theatrical performances, concerts, screenings, memorials, and receptions.

•Set-up and break down of audio/visual equipment, props, furniture, and scenery.

•Hang and focus theatrical lighting using a light plot.

•Load in/out sound using a sound plot or under the direction of the Technician Supervisors.

•Troubleshoot and problem solve AV issues before, during, and after live events.

•Follow security procedures particularly with respect to safety, equipment, and access.

•Monitor condition of equipment and supplies, and report any problems or needs.

•Provide post-event feedback relating to event, equipment, facility.

•Conduct front of house duties in conjunction with Event Managers as needed for live events.

•Run shows and events with or without a stage manager calling cues.

•Load, unload, pack, and assist w/ transport of gear to/from various locations.

•Participate in staff meetings, special events and other activities as requested.

•Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

•Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

•A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

•Have a solid background in live special and theatrical events for a variety of spaces including small (50 seats) and medium (200) houses and outdoor and/or alternative spaces.

•Minimum of three years’ experience running light and/or sound boards for live events, experience with QLab, projections and/or cameras or carpentry or rigging or painting preferred.

•Working knowledge of and the ability to operate light and sound boards and various AV equipment for events and theatre; ability to program and/or mix preferred.

•Ability to run a show with minimal technical rehearsals.

•Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and an ability to interact appropriately with visiting as well as on-site technicians, theatrical producers, directors, designers, artists, and clients.

•Computer and internet literacy; prior experience with complex computer software.

•Ability to implement event details from written work orders and to work effectively with minimal supervision, as a team, as a team leader, and alone.

•Evening and weekend hours required.

•Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
