Middle School Algebra Teacher and Advisor

Job Description

Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an enthusiastic professional to serve as a Middle School Algebra Teacher and Advisor beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be energized by working with middle school-aged students, will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, will have classroom management skills which emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement and will participate fully in the life of the School. Fort Worth Country Day expects its faculty to work effectively with the grade-level teams and the curricular departments. Additionally, each faculty member is expected to lead students in at least two extracurricular duties, such as but not limited to, coaching athletics, sponsoring a club or coordinating grade-level field trips.

Curriculum:

In pre-algebra, increased attention is given to developing an understanding of variables, expressions and equations. Computing with integers, fractions, decimals and percentages are also integral parts of the program. Statistics, probability and geometry are tied into chapters and units demonstrating the relationship between mathematical concepts. Students explore and make connections as they learn problem solving as well as decision-making strategies. As a result, students develop confidence in themselves and their ability to be successful in higher level math courses.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach courses ranging from algebra, pre-algebra or geometry depending on needs
  • Demonstrates a wide range of lesson presentation techniques in order to adapt activities for different learning styles and to meet the needs of a variety of college-bound students
  • Grade student work punctually, fairly and accurately; document and communicate students’ progress and participation
  • Knowledge and experience integrating technology into the curriculum
  • Has an obvious passion for the subject matter and for teaching
  • Can demonstrate commitment to student success by offering extra help hours
  • A team player who works well with others in the division and K-12 English and History departments
  • Able to build meaningful relationships with students and connect with them in a positive way
  • Understand baseline skills at the next level of our scope and sequence

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Education or a related field
  • Solid foundation in teaching basic math skills and math pedagogy
  • Experience as a student advisor/mentor is preferred
  • Experience in both middle school and independent school education is also preferred
