The First State Bank of Uvalde, a true Texas Legacy Bank, has a deep heritage built on fortitude of character, rich cultural traditions, and solid financial strength. Started in 1907 (111 years in business!), the majority share of the Banks stock was held by the 32nd United States Vice President (served with FDR) John Nance Cactus Jack Garner and his family. In 1960 Dolph Briscoe Jr purchased (later served as the Governor of Texas from 1973 to 1979) controlling interest in the Bank, making it the last bank in Texas owned by a true operating cattle ranch.
