SUMMARY STATEMENT
This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is responsible for teaching the Medical Laboratory Technician program core curricula. The instructor will participate in the recruitment and retention of students, selection of program materials and instructional resources, and be responsible for the ongoing development, assessment, and revision of the programs' curricula.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
A. The faculty, reports directly to and is responsible to Health Sciences Division Director and works in coordination with the Program Coordinator of the Medical Laboratory Program
B. The faculty coordinates most closely with the Health Sciences Division Director; Medical Laboratory Technician Program Coordinator; Program Adjunct Faculty, Health Sciences Administrative Office Assistant; Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education; Academic Advisement, and the Healthcare Community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. This faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach a designated number of credits per fall, spring, and summer semesters. Additionally, this faculty member is expected to perform program coordination responsibilities.
1. Assessment: the faculty member is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, discipline, program and college levels.
2. Student Advisement: the faculty member should be available to advise students on courses, program, and career objectives with support. The faculty member will maintain 5 office hours per week. Documentation of student advisement will occur using the College's online advising tracking system.
3. Student Advocacy: the faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and available to help students as needed to maximize student success and retention.
4. Curriculum Development: the faculty member must be current in the field of their instruction and transfer that knowledge to students in course content and teaching delivery, as well as continuous curriculum revisions, enhancements, and deletions to keep current with standards.
5. Recruitment and Marketing: the faculty member is a College ambassador with special obligations to promote their discipline or program to students and the local community.
6. Shared Governance: the faculty member participates in all levels of shared College governance, including departmental, divisional, and institution-wide activities.
7. Professional Development: the faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the College's strategic goals and improves instructional quality.
8. College Service: the faculty member is expected to serve the College in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus-life activities.
9. Community Service: the faculty member serves the College in voluntary community service activity that positively reflects the College's image and is not in conflict with the College's strategic goals or faculty responsibilities.
MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION
A. The faculty member is responsible for contributing to the development, assessment, and continual revision of the Medical Laboratory Technician program curricula; initiating new courses; providing oversight in acquiring and maintaining equipment and supplies; working with regulatory and accreditation bodies to ensure program compliance.
1. The faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach 15 credits per semester.
2. The faculty member will ensure that the program and curriculum offerings are in full compliance with the requirements for accreditation, certification, and other standards stipulated by appropriate external agencies.
3. The faculty member is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, discipline, program and college level.
4. The faculty member should recommend equipment, supplies, materials, and physical facilities to meet program needs; maintain operational all program equipment and facilities, and provide inventory records.
5. The faculty member must be current in the field of their instruction and transfer that knowledge to students in course content and teaching delivery; as well as curriculum revisions and updates.
B. The faculty member is expected to deliver student-centered courses, including distance-learning sections; develop and evaluate instructional materials, participate in student outcome assessment projects; advise students in and outside the classroom; and work with the Health Sciences Externship & Clinical Coordinator to provide students with quality externship experiences.
1. The faculty member should be available to recruit and advise students on courses, programs, and career objectives with support.
2. The faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and available to help students as needed to maximize student success and retention.
C. The faculty member is expected to participate in other college-related activities and must be willing to be involved in community related-activities (e.g., working with the Medical Laboratory Technician program advisory board, participating in community activities. attending health career fairs and working with high school guidance counselors to promote the Medical Laboratory Technician program).
1. The faculty member participates in all levels of shared college governance, including departmental, divisional, and institution-wide activities.
2. The faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the College's strategic goals and improves instructional quality.
3. The faculty member is expected to serve the College in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus-life activities.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Current national certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification to include MLT, MLS, or MT. Three (3) years current work experience in a clinical/medical laboratory. Three (3) years of teaching experience in post-secondary education. Knowledge of education theory, education methodology and the accreditation process for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong organizational and writing skills; attention to detail, with excellent advising/counseling skills. Ability to establish good working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Ability to organize and prioritize work, make decisions independently. Working knowledge of the Internet, discipline specific software, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
